We miss Big Brother. Yes, it has only been two months since the season ended with Chelsie Baham taking the crown, but it already feels like we have a lifetime to wait for more of our favorite reality TV series. The wait seems especially daunting with no upcoming Big Brother Canada and Big Brother: Reindeer Games seasons. North American Big Brother fans may have to wait until the summer to see the series’ next version.
Some of us often complain about the long Big Brother seasons (and I, for one, will never stop saying that 90+ days is too long for everyone involved) and the sometimes endlessly feeling cycle of the hit reality TV show but now, with the possibility of no Big Brother for at least six more months, the wait feels too long.
The silver lining is that many former Big Brother houseguests will grace our screens again soon on other reality TV shows. That’s fun, but we miss everything that comes with Big Brother as a television show.
Before the upcoming Big Brother 27 season, Celebrity Big Brother was our last hope for some Big Brother content. Sadly, that series isn’t coming back either in 2025. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Rich Meehan and Allison Grodner about Celebrity Big Brother and its possible return, and, unfortunately, they revealed that there aren’t any upcoming plans for the return of the celebrity edition of the series.
Celebrity Big Brother last aired in 2022, after a three-year hiatus. The American version of Celebrity Big Brother premiered in 2018 and has only had three seasons. It’s a shortened version of our beloved series that lasts for about three weeks and features celebrities living in the house to compete for $250,000.
When speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Meehan and Grodner didn’t say that the spin-off series was gone for good, but that CBS had no plans for a 2025 season. It just didn’t fit within their winter TV schedule. However, the Big Brother producers mentioned the idea of Celebrity Big Brother being a constant that pairs with the Winter Olympics. It could become a series that only airs every four years to follow the route of the Winter Olympics.
The first and third seasons of the series aired in the same years as the Winter Olympics. The next Winter Olympics isn’t until 2026, so there is a chance that Celebrity Big Brother will return in 2026.
This means we may have to wait another year until we see which celebrities CBS can convince to live in a house for three weeks and the antics they bring to the game. We’ll also just have to hope that CBS decides to create another Reindeer Games spin-off show, like Cupid Games, Easter Havoc, or March Madness, to help us cope with this Big Brother drought until June or July.
