Big Brother 25: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly of Week 1

We are finally into Big Brother 25 Week 2 so that means it’s time we look back on Week 1 and pull out the best and worst moments from that first week. And a lot went down this week. So let’s get to it.

The Good

A Divided House. We love to see it. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does it makes for a very entertaining season. But a divided season isn’t fun unless there are power shifts. So you might have a favorite side, but they’re going to have to lose for this to be truly entertaining and good TV.

The New Intro. I’m a graphics nerd so I was really impressed with this season’s intro. We didn’t even get one last season, so it was nice to see the return of those silly poses and dancing. Now if they could just come up with a new theme song. Sorry, but am I the only one who thinks it’s time for a new song?

Felicia.ย From falling in the hot tub to dropping several mic packs in the toilet, she must be protected at all costs. And Felicia is proof that casting older people is much more fun than a bunch of 20-something Instagram influencers.

The Bad

The Goofy Twist. We never like the twists, but usually we are at least able to comprehend them. This multiverse thing is so messy and convoluted I don’t even know what it is. And it feels like they’re making it up as they go. And no one was amused by how the twist decided the Week 1 nominations.

Reilly’s HOH. Speaking of how Week 1 nominations went down, it’s kind of funny how bad Reilly’s HOH was. It wasn’t Frenchie HOH bad by any means, but the fact that she didn’t even make the noms and still had an HOH implosion is kind of impressive. She just spent too much time in her HOH room with her OBVIOUS alliance, and is now one of the main targets of the other side alliance.

Thursday Night’s Episode. From the editing, to the way they handled Luke’s departure to the fact that there was still an actual eviction, that episode gets an F- from me. And people on social media agreed that it was just all around a bad episode.

The Ugly

Luke’s Racial Slur. It sucks how this show is constantly in the spotlight for racism. No matter what the network does to improve diversity, there is still a casting problem with this show. Only 16 people out of millions of choices, and they still manage to find ones who are problematic. It’s just sad. And then they barely mentioned what happened on the episode when it should have been a much bigger part of the show and could have been used as a learning moment. Some people didn’t even know what that was about because of the terrible editing. There was mention of Luke’s usage of the word not being from a place of malice, but from a place of ignorance. But in 2023, if there’s still that kind of ignorance in a grown man, then that’s a problem.

What did you think of Big Brother 25 Week 1? What were your favorite moments?
