Big Brother 23: Does Derek X Have Any Outs This Week?

The final Noms are set for Week 7 of Big Brother 23 and there’s yet another Backdoor in the works here but nothing is official until Julie reads off the count. So does this week’s target have a shot at redemption and another week in the house? Ehh, let’s take a look.

So Derek X’s biggest advantage here, unlike Britini last week or Whitney in Week 4, is that he is not up against a Cookout member. Xavier came down at the Veto meeting and DX took his spot next to Claire. If someone else had saved Claire and this was a DX vs X scenario then it’d be open and shut at that moment, but it’s not so it isn’t.

Okay, I’ll be upfront, I do not see DX surviving this vote, so don’t get your hopes up, but his chances are better than they could be. He’s likable and competitive with no shortage of allies, but the allies in power have a great alliance with the Cookout and that won’t be overturned for the sake of keeping DX. At best, he could be vying for an extra week or two here, but the risk of keeping DX who has been more a great competitor makes him the better choice to evict, per the Cookout’s needs.

Flashback on your Live Feeds to last night, 8/24 @ 2AM BBT Cams 1/2, as Hannah pitches the idea to Kyland that they make it a 3-4 vote with Azah joining them to keep DX. Hannah’s idea here is that in the case of a Jury Battleback they’ll be covered. I don’t get that argument particularly since you can talk those votes away later if needed and why do they need the third vote with Azah anyway. Kyland says it’s too risky to be that close and 2 votes is as much as they should risk. Yep. Hannah also notes that she thinks Azah is struggling to want to VTE DX.

As a refresher, our voters this week will be Alyssa, Azah, DF, Hannah, Kyland, Tiffany, and Xavier. In a non-Cookout world, I’d say DX would have a shot at this. Alyssa wants her revenge for Christian’s BD, Azah seems to have a good connection with DX and she sees his value, DF is so nebulous and who knows, Hannah would obviously prefer DX over Claire, Tiffany’s +1 is Claire but if she were playing this game non-Cookout I could see her keeping DX, and Xavier would probably always side with Alyssa. BUT, none of that matters, Cookout is king.

What DX needs to do is make inroads on the short-term boost benefits for others to keep him over Claire. He doesn’t know the Cookout exists and Claire seems to only suspect it. He might have two votes with Hannah and Azah plus maybe a third with Tiffany if she’d be willing to give up her +1 now versus later but that’s still not enough. If DX got Azah he could get DF, in theory. DX won’t get Alyssa or Xavier though and Kyland won’t go against Sarah. That last one would require Sarah to change her mind and then maybe Kyland would consider it, but… ehh, nah.

Cookout had a lot of luck with DX not playing the Roulette and then not getting to play for Veto. Next week he’d have enough points for the Coin o’ Destiny along with a shot at HOH and another chance at playing/winning Veto. That’s just way too risky compared to keeping Claire. It doesn’t make sense for the Six to take that risk instead of the sure thing now. Nope.

The path is narrow and although it’s feasible I just don’t see it likely. I do hope DX keeps fighting though and plays like Christian did by campaigning up to the very end. You’ll likely never have another chance so max it out and fight for your game!

What do you think? Does Derek X stand a chance this week or is he done and set to head to Jury as #2? Share your thoughts and strategies you would want DX to use for his best chance to stay.
