Big Brother 26’s tw0-night season premiere wrapped up Thursday night as the final eight houseguests moved into the house and got the same introduction to the BBAI twist. There was a little deja vu there, but there were some new developments in this episode. And like last night, it’s time for me to give some more of my first impressions. And I have to warn you, I was far less pleased tonight than last. So be prepared for some complaints.
The Cast
Last night I said that I was pretty happy with the cast and even had a few favorites from the group. I can say that I didn’t have the same feelings with the second batch of houseguests. This group of eight seemed like the B-team. There was just something off about the vibe they brought. Cedric seems pretty charismatic and there are some super fans in the group, but I just wasn’t too excited about them. And how hilarious is it that Kenny thinks everyone is not going to know he’s a police officer immediately?
The Twist
As I said last night, I am not loving the twist. I usually don’t love the twists. But I really don’t like this one. And it keeps getting worse. Not only is the AI thing really generic looking, what she’s bringing to the game is very unfair. I can’t stand when twists change the game, or make it harder for someone to simply play Big Brother. And that’s what this twist is doing already.
The Upgrades
Quinn and Makensy ended up getting the upgrades, and we don’t know who will get what, but Julie did reveal that the two powers are “Deep Fake HOH” and “America’s Veto.” Both of these sound kind of interesting. I imagine the Deep Fake HOH will be some sort of secret HOH or takeover HOH. And America’s Veto is probably just what it says: We will likely get to vote on how to use a veto at some point. The upgrades are fine. That’s not where I have a problem …
The Downgrades
This is where I have a problem. Chelsie and Cedric lost their competitions and have been stripped of their HG privileges. They can’t compete in the Head of Household competition or the Power of Veto this week. They also can’t vote in the first eviction. But they can be nominated and evicted. That is some of the most ridiculous night one garbage I’ve seen. That’s right up there with Jodi’s eviction on BB14 and Paul coming into BB19 and handing out Friendship Bracelets. I feel sorry for Cedric and Chelsie. It would be so easy to just pick them as the nominees and not have to worry about them saving themselves. I hope that’s not what happens, because it would be terribly unfair and cruel. But we’ll see what happens soon enough.
Overall Impression
It’s just Big Brother as usual as far as me hating the twist goes. I hate complaining about the show. I know it probably gets annoying, but I it’s time for them to give up on these twists. They aren’t usually successful. They are usually unfair. They’re gimmicky. They’re lazy. It’s time to get back to the show’s roots. I wish someone who has the power would really see that and make it happen. I miss the show. I miss the heart and excitement of the show.
All this being said, I’m going to say that I will remain optimistic. It has only been two nights. This could end up being an amazing season, and I will get all my BB wishes! What did you think of the two-night Big Brother 26 premiere?
