Big Brother 21 Premiere Night One First Impressions

Big Brother 21 premiered Tuesday night and the 16 new houseguests were already dealt with a major twist as they’ll be playing Camp Big Brother all season (or at least the first few weeks). So we only got one hour on Tuesday night, but a lot happened, so let’s take look at our first impressions of the new season.

The Cast

I think the cast is pretty solid at the moment. Sure, they stuck to their usual formula: a handful of people of color, one gay guy, a fit guy from the country, some country girls, a nerd, the “old’ guy … they are clearly never going to stray from that formula. But this season SOME the people who fit into those archetypes seem especially unique. I think Tommy, Kemi, Christie and Jessica really stand out as a different kind of player, so they will be fun to watch. And there are definitely enough different personality types to ensure us some drama.

Big Brother 21 House: bedrooms

The House

The house looks a little better when you are watching them live in than it was in pictures. In pictures it looked kind of like a summer camp nightmare. I think I will like it much better than I expected. I like the bedrooms much better than I live the kitchen and living room. And I am kind of a fan of the ladder. I just hope no one falls down that thing.

The Twist

I know I never like the Big Brother twists, but I cannot stress how much I hate this twist. First of all, a Camp Director? Huh? Why not just give that power to the first HOH? It just seems really silly and kind of like a children’s show. But the worst part is that the Camp Director has to banish four people and only three of them get to come back in the game. That means someone will once again be evicted before the game even really begins. And what does banish even mean? What summer camp do you know that banishes people? It makes no sense. Nothing Big Brother does makes me angrier than Night One evictions. And that’s essentially what this will be. The person who loses is getting evicted night one. We won’t see that until Wednesday night’s episode, but it’s still Night One in the game. Also, the person who has to banish four people and ultimately crush someone’s dreams will have to deal with that. I’d never want that title. I hope Jackson realizes how bad of an idea that was.

Overall

It’s hard to not be negative when you l love a show as much as we love Big Brother. And as fans, we love to complain. I, personally, hate complaining, but I seem to do a lot of it here. That’s only because I want to love a season! And when you hate the twist right out of the gate, it’s disappointing. That being said, I have high hopes for the season. The cast is refreshing and a lot of them seem to really want to play the game hard. And here’s to hoping the person who gets the shaft with the twist will get a chance to come back into the game via a Battle Back.

What did you think of the Big Brother 21 premiere? Who are you rooting for or is it too soon to say?
