The Best And Worst Of The Big Brother 17 Premiere

Big Brother 17 is here and we made it through the two-night premiere along with already more twists than we can count!

This season, I’m going to be pulling out a fun little list for you that cheers the best moments in the BB17 game and jeers the worst moments. I can be looking at game moves, quotes, twists, production decisions, basically anything. So welcome to the first installment of “Ewws and Ahhs.” You guessed it. If I liked something, it gets an Ahh! If I didn’t like it, it gets an Eww! Usually it’ll be for a full Big Brother Week, but since we don’t get the full week this week, I’ll focus only on the two-night premiere.

Ahh. Audrey’s story. I’m impressed with how the other houseguests responded to the news that Audrey Middleton is the first transgender houseguest. I’m also happy it’s not being made into some issue or ordeal. It’s just a backstory and doesn’t seem to be chaining the game in any way.

Battle of the Block

Eww. Battle of the Block is back. Hmm. First of all, on what planet was that ever a fan-favorite twist, as Julie called it? I was on Twitter when that was announced and the overwhelming consensus was EWWWWWWW. No one was happy about that twist returning.

BB5-twin-twist

Ahh. The Twin Twist returns. This crazy twist first came into play during Big Brother 5 and it went off without a hitch. The twins made it to their target date and both entered the game to play. The made some unpopular moves after that and were evicted basically immediately, but it was fun to try to figure out who was in the game at what time. So I think it has potential to be fun again, but we’ll see.

Jeff-and-jackie-TAR

Eww. Jeff and Jackie. People seem to be very mixed on this twist. I’m personally not a fan of someone who get a shot on one show getting as shot on another when there are plenty of people out there who would want just ONE chance to compete on one of their favorite shows. I just don’t like this idea yet.

Big Brother 17 - Premiere Part 2 Houseguests

Ahh. Fans outweigh recruits. At least I think they do. Or maybe these BB fans are just bigger and better superfans than some of the ones in recent seasons. It’s a pretty solid cast overall, so far.

What were your eww and ahh moments from the two-night premiere of Big Brother 17?

  1. How could an issue possibly be made of Audrey being Transgender? We’ve reached a point in media that anyone who shows any issue with someone’s sexuality is socially assaulted until they are either hated by the masses or they shut up and are completely accepting. It’s a terrible and hypocritical system, which means there’s no way anyone can show issue to these things publicly anymore.

Even if you dont agree with the opinion, people should be allowed to take a mature stance against these things without being relentlessly chastized.

    • The thing is, you have no business taking issue with anybody’s sexuality but your own. It’s not the media punishing you, it’s your own mouth that gets you in trouble. Sorry, but that’s the world you live in.

      • I definitely am allowed to take issue, as I believe it’s one of the most basic natural (and God-ordained) principles. However, I personally don’t actively take issue because that would make me a hypocrite myself.. which is a different conversation.

But its just as wrong to blast someone for their opinions on sexuality as it is to blast someone for their sexuality itself. Its like you said, their opinion is theirs. Maturally discussing it is one response, but media culture right now has made the normal response to visciously attack someone until they shut up. Thats so wrong.

      • “Tolerate my intolerance!” is what you’re saying…your religion has conditioned you to make a public issue of something very private, so your opinions are worthless. Why dispense them?

      • My religion has not conditioned me to do that, as I already explained I dont do it haha. But religion aside, this country protects free speech, which includes speech of intolerance towards anyone or anything. So we shouldn’t, as a culture, systematically destroy this right on a particular topic just because a group widely known for its sensitivity is offended. Thats not a valid reason. So yes I am telling you that “Tolerate intolerance” is a thing, regardless of your approval.

P.S. – just a side note – making an issue out of a private concept does not make an opinion worthless. That has no logical reasoning behind it.

      • I dont really want to continue this discussion here, its not the appropriate place. My point at the end of the day is, it would be far more genuine if someone in the house did take issue with Audrey’s announcement because we get real discussion, which is beneficial to society, instead of feigned interation where everyone is forced to be happy that Audrey is transsexual.

      • Then don’t complain when you get negative responses to your bigoted views? I’m not sure what else to tell you. Freedom of speech works both ways.

      • You are missing the entire point lol. And clearly are not reading what I have written either as you still are writing about my personal chastising of peoples sexuality… so maybe it is you with the bigoted views.

      • I treat every human being exactly how I would like to be treated, no bigotry here! If I were saying ignorant things on a public forum, I would definitely want somebody to call me out. Consider this a favor.

  2. The “Fan Favorite” comment about the BotB is because CBS has over 6 million viewers. The online community is more vocal – but does not represent the majority. CBS did some focus group study and found the BotB concept was popular. Remember – CBS does not care about us -because they make more money from TV Commercials than Live Feed sales.

    • But I don’t get how even the TV viewers liked BoB… It was just the bomb squad/detonators ruling the game week after week. Plus, CBS should’ve taken account into the fact that the ratings were high last season due to the “Grande effect”

      • “BotB concept was popular” – and last years ratings were on par with the previous seasons. The Grande Effect really was not as extreme as people think. If it was – wouldn’t Frankie have been in the Top 3 of the AFP?

    • That’s absolutely true. CBS business is entertainment but even in that business, money is the end game.

  3. I think BotB has a chance to be awesome and exciting, but then again…it had that same chance last year and those house guests broke it instantly by working together every HoH.

  4. I have no idea why they chose a TAR team to come in. Its just stunt casting and not needed for me. They become a target, yawn. Its too predictable. I think someone may figure out this twin thing but will they say anything or not, and how its handled. That might become interesting.

    • To make the contestant-sharing among the three CBS reality staples complete. BB has sent their alumni to TAR and Survivor in the past, Survivor sent a few of theirs to TAR, and TAR have sent a pair to Survivor (with one of them winning).

  5. UGH: the endless commercials, 2nd HOH comp rigged (I thought the comp would be the same as the night b4 so it would be equal for all hgs), John flossing in the backyard, wasting air time on Rachel crying and yelling and J&J from their time on TAR. (b back later to list my ahhhh moments)

  6. I don’t mind the TAR couple coming on BB17, but I’m very offended at Caleb being cast on Survivor. His behavior last season was so sexist and borderline psychotic and I can’t believe CBS is rewarding him for the way he treated Amber.

  7. The focus should simply be on the fun of Big Brother – not sexual preference/gender identiication/religion/race – whatever. Don’t like – don’t watch. There are many interesting aspects of BB
