Adam Poch’s Big Brother 19 Player Rankings – Week 02

What a difference a week of Big Brother 19 makes huh? Last week at this time, we were all glued to the feeds – waiting to see who’s votes would fall where. There was a line drawn in the sand, Cody vs Paul. We had the potential to a house divide of BB6 proportions… and then….. Paul won HoH.

Adam Poch tries to burn down the Big Brother house

So now when we say “It’s a long way til Thursday” – we are not saying that anything is possible, we’re saying, its a loooooooong way til Thursday. Hopefully one of the Outsiders wins HoH and we get back to some crazy Big Brother action.

BUT FIRST – lets hand out Bacon & Tofu to the Houseguests for their gameplay this week.

Paul Abrahamian – 5 strips of Bacon – Paul won HoH, he won Veto, he executed a textbook Backdoor against the #1 enemy of the house, and he is still safe for another week. By getting rid of Cody, he has earned himself even more trust. Other than Ramses and Jessica, he thinks he has them all wrapped around his beard. Eventually a few of them will rise against him.. right???

Honestly – I was seriously considering giving everyone else Tofu for their lack of original game ideas, but a few of them quietly stepped up their position in the house.

Alex Ow – 3 strips of Bacon – yes, she went up on the block as a pawn and remained there after Paul pulled Josh off instead of her. But Alex has been making her rounds and somehow shrunk the target off her back considerably. Next to Paul – she has the most people that she is tight with, and is probably safe no matter who wins next HoH. Alex is fully aware of who she really trusts, and who she is really playing.

Christmas Abbott – 2 strips of Bacon – Thanks to a busted up leg, Christmas has earned the sympathy of most of her fellow HGs & will probably last far into the game. She is using the time wisely – getting to know everyone, even tried to have a civilized conversation with Jessica. However – some people may be getting a little tired of her – but as long as Paul wants her around – she will stick around. Fans can question why she can leave for surgery and be able to come back into the game. I am not 100% sure if there is something in the rule book about it (maybe Kryssie from BBOTT can tell us) – but she is, so deal with it.

Matthew Clines & Raven Walton – 1 strip of bacon each. Last week I gave Maven 2 strips of Tofu each – this week, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt – because they are so non-threats at this point of the game. At some point they may be a target, but that is still a ways off!

Kevin Schlehuber – 1 strip of Bacon – Kevin’s hinkey vote for Jillian to leave and constant deflection of the question is amazing. I am starting to think he knows a lot more of what he’s doing than he’s letting on. Another one who is on no one’s radar up til now. Kevin is very deliberate with his words, so as long as he can keep that up – he’s golden

Dominique Cooper – 1/2 strip of Bacon & 1/2 strip of Tofu – not really sure why someone who is so safe is still playing so hard. She has an ability to get people to tell her things, and you know she is putting it into her bank to use against them later. I have hope that even though she has fully penetrated the inner circle of Paul’s army – she will be the first one to jump ship and try to make a move against him. Unfortunately – I think if she does it, it will be a week too early.

Mark Jansen & Elena Davies – 1 strip of Tofu each – there was a bump in the road last week with Marlena, but they quickly got that showmance on track. They both play very emotionally – Mark’s are a bit soft & Elena’s are a bit harsh – so they even each other out.

Ramses Soto – 2 strips of Tofu – poor Ramses, he gets blamed for everything that Kevin does and cannot seem to find anyone to believe him. This is just making the target on him bigger – but he is not stressing too much and is really enjoying his time in the house. Ramses really needs to win HoH this week as he is the bigger target over Jessica from Paul’s army.

Jason Dent – 3 strips of Tofu – “I suck at this game” – Jason said what many of us have been thinking since day 1. Jason is not a bad guy – and no one really despises him, but he has no idea what he is doing in the game. If not for Alex & Kevin keeping him in check – Jason may have even campaigned against Alex to try to keep Cody… wait.. no, no he would never think that, or would he??? He has been a trooper this week in the Ve-Toad outfit, having way more fun than Jessica & Cody are with it. I would really love to see him win an HoH and shake things up a little. But unless the challenge is outrunning a bull, not sure what competition he would win.

Josh Martinez – 4 strips of Tofu – Josh is so desperate to be loved by his fellow HGs that he had no issues going up on the block as a pawn, and once he was taken off, he acted like he just made the move himself. He has no clue that he is still at the bottom of Paul’s army, but even if he stuck with the Outsiders last week, he would have been at the bottom of theirs. He will blindly follow Paul & Christmas as long as he can (kinda like some other fanboy followed Jeff & Jordan on BB13).

Cody Nickson – 5 strips of Tofu – oh Cody… we have not seen anyone get as power hungry since BB16 Devon. Both of them went rogue and took control of their alliance and went behind their backs to try ti make moves – and just like Devon – Cody is getting chopped way too early. Ok, ok, I know a lot of you reading this may not fans of his – but he did bring some excitement to the house the first week – and IF.. if he wins the Battle Back that most of the house does not think will happen – he will be coming back stronger, hungrier, and probably crazier. He is resigned to leaving – I have not even seen him try to flip the house to keep him. Granted it probably would not have worked – but he could have at least tried!! I cannot wait for him to be interviewed by Julie in that frog suit.

That brings us to the Tofurkey of the Week – and it goes to Cody’s showmance partner Jessica Graf. Similar to Cody, she has isolated herself from the rest of the house, had a major fight with Christmas during the live show, had another blowout with Josh after the Veto meeting, and basically threw her entire game away. Does she realize that she is still in the game, she still has a chance to get far. She should have spent this week trying to mend fences with the other HGs – instead she pulled further away. She claimed to be a super fan – but plays like she never heard of Big Brother.

Jessica (just like Ramses) needs to win the HoH this week – and frankly – WE the fans need her to win HoH just to see everyone come back to her and beg for their safety. If she does not win, she better hope that whoever does win does not try to go after her &/or she wins the Veto. That is way too many IF’s. However the other MUST SEE moment of the summer could be if Jessica & Cody square off in a Battle Back competition. Which one would throw it to the other?

My question of the week is – what do you think of the Temptations so far this year? Sure – the Pendant of Production… I mean of Protection was geared to save Paul – but now he is no longer eligible.

There we go – another week in the books. I still have hope that this season can turn around and get back to the crazy drama we had the first week. This cast is pretty awesome when they are not kissing up to Paul or think this is all a Make-A-Wish season and want to hand Raven $500K. Even if we have 2 or 3 more weeks of the same – once they all start having to cut each other – you will see some of them get REAL ugly!

Let me know what you think of my rankings this week – as well as answer my Question of the Week in the comments section below.

  1. Very much agreed on all counts. At this point I’m hoping for an HOH victory form the other side and hopeful for an unexpected temptation down the line to shake things up. Also human nature will take it’s course and kumbaya won’t last long. I actually think BECAUSE they get along so well that it’s going to be even more dramatic later this season. Loving BB19 so far.

  2. If Jessica doesn’t win HOH this week the show will continue to get super boring as everyone else trips over themselves to show how loyal they are to King Paul

    • No it won’t get boring…The 2 remaining showmances are gonna have to turn on each other…Not to mention that Dominique and Mark have a little side relationship that Elena suspects but does not know for sure..Alex has Kevin on her radar as untrustworthy while trying to keep Jason in tow so not to lose a # for her side.. The 3rd temptation is really gonna be major cause an eviction can be cancelled…It is not gonna be boring…And Paul has already told Kevin that he is done for now and the other HGs are gonna have to start battling it out…Gonna be interesting to see Jessicas plan to stay in the house…So nooooo its not gonna get boring…

    • Well there is the drama between Elena-Mark-Dominique.
      Plus there’s the battle back.
Furthermore I think Paul will take a step back to let everyone destroy themselves.

      • Why does everyone think there’s a battle back? We’ve yet to hear it from Julie’s lips.

      • You’re absolutely right. But we know something is bound to happen and all we have to go on is what happened last year. So we called it battle back until we know different.

      • Look at the TV guide for Friday July 21st… Big Brother episode on CBS. It’s the battle back!

      • I only see BB airing on that day…but nothing inferring to it being a Battle Back is all.

      • IF it’s not a Battleback – i will give myself TOFURKEY the following week!

      • I wish there wasn’t a battleback but the extra episode next week would seem to say otherwise. I hope it isn’t true, I can’t take frog boy anymore, in any capacity.

      • Since you mentioned frog boy aka Cody I have to give props to Jason. I understand that he has faults but of the three he has been taking the frog suit punishment the best. Whereas Cody and especially Jessica rarely wears the entire costume, every time I see Jason on BB After Dark he is always in full costume when he isn’t in the pool.

      • I couldn’t agree more!! Major props to how Whistledick has been rocking the frog suit and not complaining, just getting no with the damn day.

      • LOL, NO NO NO, it’s WHISTLEDICK

      • :)

    • No one knows that for sure and I think Josh has plenty of drama in him as well as Kevin. Kevin will be more lowkey about it but I don’t think he is averse to drumming sh*t up. He’s already thrown Ramses under the bus and has yet to dial back on it.

  3. I’m very glad to see that my liking of Alex is not alone!
And honestly I’m loving the temptations, I hope they can stick with them and keep them entertaining. :)

    • I like it too. Don’t really understand what everyone is complaining about. The first 2 weeks of BB19 alone have been better than the past 4 years combined.

      • They really have, I was going to give up on the show if this season wasn’t good – but thankfully they’ve turned it around.

  4. I agree with your rankings 100% Adam. The one I’ve been afraid to bring up in the forums, so I’m glad you did, is…’or think this is all a Make-A-Wish season and want to hand Raven $500K’. I feel bad for Raven. I empathize with her. I like her. But damn, she and many others seem to think that she ‘deserves’ to win because of her illness. She doesn’t, imo. And if anyone missed it, Raven revealed to Matt yesterday that she met Paul in March and is connected to his fan base. Uggh. (I don’t know the time right off hand, but I will look for it and post)

    • I saw that she told Matt about meeting Paul – and he thought nothing of it (what did he say – something like “that’s cool”

I think once they get further into the game – the sympathy for Raven will be replaced by everyone else’s greed!

      • See and that’s just it, I was saying this the other day – everyone has their own accomplishments and hurdles in life, and no one deserves to win BB because of them. They deserve to win because they played the freaking game and kicked bum!!!

      • I don’t think Raven is using her illness for sympathy to win the game. I could be wrong but I feel as if she just wants to bring awareness to the disease itself. I for one had never heard of it before Raven explained it. Just my opinion.

      • That’s true I hadn’t heard of it either, so let’s hope that’s all she wants. I’ve heard of previous HG’s before trying to gain sympathy and it usually never works, so either way haha

    • I don’t see a big deal about being connected to a fan base. .I would guess that (superfans or just fans) Cameron maybe Ramses etc etc etc are connected to fan bases but just ain’t dumb enough to tell another HG about it.. And per Ravens illness she no more deserves the win than Christmas does…I wish them both the best of luck with their health problems but don’t see either winning BB on a medical condition/ issue alone…

    • Never supported someone winning because they had the biggest sob story whether it’s a disease, real or imagined (thank you Matt from BB12); or they have kids and want to provide for them or they just want to buy hair extensions ( I just made that up for Rachel). Why they would think that they could or should win with sympathy votes is beyond me

  5. Spot on as always. So far I don’t think much of the Den. I hated that they gave Paul so much power and really wish production would stay out of it. I am hoping it gets better, I thought this week’s was lame. I also don’t think they should cater to Christmas

  6. “(kinda like some other fanboy followed Jeff & Jordan on BB13)”

Hummm. I wonder who that was. LOL

  7. The only thing I would disagree with is your ranking of Kevin. Reading what you said, I think even you can agree he deserves more than one strip of bacon. Old man is PLAYING this game and working the house like a (mob) boss.

    • I am just not sure if A) he knows exactly what he’s doing… and B) if it will come back to bite him in the ass later. The problem with juggling lies in the BB house is once you get caught in one… they all come crashing down.

      • Oh he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s playing everyone. He’s playing like he knows nothing. Yeah right. I see right through him.

      • I actually agree. The fact that he somehow is able to cast votes, win 25k and have NO ONE know is amazing. Somehow people can always find out, and yet no one has even GUESSED that it’s him!

      • But, someone does kniow … Paul knows.
Tell one person your secret and it’s no longer a secret.
        Bad Move Kevin!

      • Exactly Paul will use this as blackmail at some point! Kevin never should have told him! Keep your secrets!

      • But, for the moment, he’s working them like a pro. I agree, they will probably come back later to bite him, but, for now, he deserves more credit.

    • Kevin is running circles around these whipper snappers. He’s onto Paul as well. It will be interesting to see how their relationship in the house matures, will it sourer or will it grow and they become a true team, which is what I’m hoping for. Kevin and Paul F2 is my dream scenario. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/42696e59c3e934f8221977cc3825cd2a577de1b3b20a3e8a246a7e35c48104ac.gif

  8. Thoughts:
    – I think Alex will take a step back at let everyone destroy themselves. I don’t think she’s 100% Team Paul. She’s the Andrea to Paul’s Boston Rob. Jeez how many Boston Rob references can I make of Paul lol
    – Interesting to see Josh win HOH, we don’t know what he’ll do. So let’s just see what happens
    – Jessica really is a lost cause. Even if she won’t be targeted nobody trusts her and its all her own fault.
    – Kevin is pretty much playing bumbling old man, but I think he knows what he’s doing so I have faith in him
    – Matt gives me a Jeff Schroeder vibe from Season 11. Except here Matt is more calm than Jeff and is more under the radar.
    – Ohh boy… Elena and Dominique…. let’s see what happens…

    • I’m still confused about Elena and Dom’s drama. No one has really said what it’s all about, just that it exists. You’d do me a huge favour by explaining :o

      • I think Elena does not like the closeness that Mark and Don seem to have..that’s what I have noticed on the feeds. The green eyed monster is in the house!

      • Well that’s silly. There’s not many people to interact with and the house is not large enough to not have more than one friend. Hopefully it doesn’t spill over.

Wait what am I saying. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.

      • Yes 2 girls both interested in Mark the big soft teddy bear! He is really nice guy! He was wondering if Elena was playing him and Dom was giving him advice about it. I think Marlena is back on now. Elena can appear distant at times or cold to Mark.

      • I have no idea whats going on myself but basically a love triangle bewteen Elena, Mark and Dom. Elena and Mark have a showmance, and Dom and Mark are friends. Apparently Elena is pretty much Natalie to Mark’s James.

  9. Yes, we could have a week or two of this kind of stuff, but I have great hope for the Battle Back and really hope its not connected to the Halting Hex because Alex, the likely winner of it, will really not use it unless its for her or, more likely, to keep Jason around and if the next two weeks go as predicted, he won’t be in real danger until the week after the Battle Back is scheduled. But I tell you, if the episode just ends up being some sort of catch up, I will be irritated.

Then again, I hope the Halting Hex has like the promise of guaranteeing a double eviction the following week because these temptations really should have a bad side for the tempted. Like, Paul gets three weeks of protection, he should then also, since the game involves actions and risk (or should) not be able to win veto or hoh during that same time. It would make it much more important for him to win the next hoh because he might have been out of the loop. I have less issue with the Ring because, well, its kind of dumb. Yes, if Cody had been picked it would have worked, but the odds work better for awhile. But to have made it a real choice for Christmas it could have had a bad side, like, she had to choose three people, but if she is on the block, she has to pick those people (of whoever is left).

  10. I was wondering…Do any of these HG’s have a “ride or die?” I haven’t been able to determine that yet? I see Mark and Dom..I see Elena and Ramses..but did they ride or die deals with each other?

    • It almost seems like Paul has one with just about every HG, but I haven’t seen any official alliances. At all. On either side. Very unusual.

      • With all the twists and friendships there is no need for that now! They just had the big blowup of the 9 persona alliance. Paul and Christmas were not even official just assumed? There is lots of distrust going on so why have alliance as it is early. Some smaller ones will form in the next few weeks. Marlena with Paul Xmas and Dom would be one! I like Maven Marlena Xmas and Dom! I hope one of these 6 wins BB! I also like Kevin!

  11. Pendant of Production, LMAO! Oh, thank you so much for that, Adam. Even if they didn’t rig the votes, there’s no denying that production did not expect / was unhappy with the way that turned out.

The temptations are interesting, and they’re definitely shaking up the game. It’s just very one sided right now, though, so it’s starting to get boring and predictable.

    • I think it will get better once the HG’s who have won can no longer recieve a temptation, so we will see people on the other side start to get rewarded and really shake things up. :)

  12. Battle Back will not happen. Evicted house guests have been interviewed, and Julie has not given any hints to them or the viewers. Also don’t forget that Christmas still has the Veto replace and this week someone will get the Eviction cancellation. Also they had a special episode once before that was just recaps of what had already happened in the house.

    • the recap epsilon happens at the end of the season – not at the beginning. Cameron & Jillian are not back in the real world yet – so they are still being held by BB. Cody is out this week – and probably someone out next week – meaning 4 evictees – so 3 rounds of Battle Back. If I am wrong – TOFURKEY for me!

  13. I didn’t like Paul last year when he played in season 18 and I don’t like him even more this year in season 19. Why are these house guests playing his game and not their own? They listen to him like they don’t have a mind of their own. He should have been the first one gone and not the first one chosen for the den of temptation.

    • He scares ’em. He’s this wacky furry animal thing that jumps around popping off, snarling and snapping to bite things. That’s his job.

  14. I think past players should not return to the game unless it’s an all star cast!

  15. Cody is actually the only one smart enough to see, from the start, the duplicity and THREAT that Paul is. So, he put up Paul without telling anyone? Okay. But, Paul was a threat to HIS ALLIANCE, the same alliance that dumped him because of that! Stupid move! So, his Couples Alliance jumped to follow Paul. Paul, who makes a million moves behind their backs (like throw in a hinky vote by Kevin) without telling them! So, crap on Cody — but it makes no sense. His old alliance just put themselves in a worse position, and strengthened Paul. Really dumb gameplay.

    • I say it all the time – it’s not the message, it’s the messenger. Andy played as good of a game if not better than Derrick. Derrick is a BB Legend – Andy is a rat. ( I personally think Andy is one of the better winners)

  16. Cannot believe how that group are like sheep being led to the slaughter, and how fast they jumped ship on Cody. Thank goodness for Alex. I to see her go far. Thank you Adam for your. Articles. I love to read them
