Big Brother finally feels like it’s starting, especially with the introduction of the new houseguests. We now know the names and faces of the 16 new players who will occupy our summer. However, there is still a mystery houseguest who will remain hidden until premiere night. Along with the names and interviews with the Big Brother 27 houseguests came teasers about the upcoming season.
This includes host Julie Chen-Moonves teasing viewers on what to expect this season, including the return of a major twist: the AI Arena. In Big Brother 26, the producers surprised viewers and houseguests with a game-changing twist. It allowed players on the block a chance to save their games in a competition.
Every week, the Head of Household nominated three players for eviction. One could then save themselves by winning the Veto or having the Veto used on them. Then every week, three houseguests competed for safety in the AI Arena. The winner of it would become ineligible for eviction.
The houseguests not on the block then had to vote out one of the two players remaining on the block. The AI Arena helped make Big Brother 26 such an unpredictable season. The houseguests had to plan for several different scenarios and couldn’t enter Thursday with a set eviction decision.
Additionally, sometimes the emotions of the moment resulted in people throwing their strategy and target out the window. Many fans loved how the AI Arena added some new energy to the Big Brother game. It also helped make players like Tucker Des Lauriers the heroes of the season for constantly battling the AI Arena, until he finally lost a pivotal battle.
Therefore, the Big Brother producers knew they had struck gold with the AI Arena and planned for its return. In the Big Brother 27 teaser video, Julie confirms the AI Arena’s return, but rebranding as the BB Blockbuster.

In the video, Julie mentions one of the key reasons why this twist works: it makes things uncertain and more electric. “You’ll never know who is going home because the houseguests will have a last-minute chance to take themselves off the block with the BB Blockbuster.”
The AI Arena truly added a lot of fresh energy to Big Brother. Therefore, we’re curious to see if it continues to build momentum or lose some of the spark it had in the previous season.
