Another week in the books and how the tides have changed! If we’ve learned anything this week, it’s that you are never safe in the Big Brother house. One minute you planning your final two speech and in the blink of an eye you’re pleading for your life.
We can thank one man for all the drama this week, James Huling. James has jumped up the charts for a lot of people as far as favorite players go, especially if you’re not a fan of the Shelli and Clay showmance or the Sixth Sense.
James has been a straight shooter most of the game and it has been no secret that he’s there to make big moves and “wear blood like war paint.” Is this a good strategy to win Big Brother? Probably not. Will he be on the block next week if someone from outside his alliance wins? Yup.
That being said, this move was necessary to give him a fighting chance. He realized he was outnumbered and that the only way to break up a large group is to put two of them on the block and watch them turn on each other, which they did.
James is definitely an underdog this season and has many people rooting for him. What differentiates him from past underdogs is that he’s actually winning HOH competitions, which is the only real way to have an impact on the game. POV wins are great but it only gets you to the next week. When you’re the head of household, making the right move can cause an entire reorganization of the house. James has done that this week but in order for him to continue this movement, he needs one of his allies to step-up. If they’re able to win, James could go deep in this game.
Reorganization of alliances is great for TV. What’s even better as a houseguest is knowing that regardless of how it all ends up, you’re still right in the middle and loved by everyone. Does this sound like anyone to you? That’s right. John McGuire is right where he wants to be, halfway through the game and not on anyone’s radar.
This season reminds me a lot of Big Brother 15. Two major groups battling it out, major players going home one by one, while a the floater plays both groups all the way to the end. Make no mistake, floating is a strategy and regardless of whether you like it or not, my man Johnny Mac is a floater. And I can promise you this, Johnny Mac will gladly take that title for half a million dollars.
Johnny Mac also has a good relationship with Becky Burgess, who appears to be making a connection with James and his crew. This is great for Johnny Mac. She’s doing all the work, securing his and her safety with the outsiders, all while the Sixth Sense still believes he is with them. Depending on who wins HOH tonight, Johnny will surely gravitate towards that side of the house. Will Johnny Mac be on the block again? Absolutely, but as long as the two alliances continue to go after each other, Johnny will continue to sleep all the way to the final 2.
Although this week has been great for TV, it has not been a good week for Vanessa Rousso. Her alliance is in shambles and two of her closest allies are on the block and one of them will be going home tonight. Additionally, both Shelli and Clay have lost some trust in Vanessa and have started to open up to other houseguests.
You also have Austin, Liz, and Julia working as a threesome with Vanessa as their fourth. As far as the other side of the house goes, most of the houseguests have caught on to Vanessa’s tactics. Becky, Jackie, James, John, and Meg have all mentioned her as someone they wouldn’t mind seeing go home next week. Even as I am writing this article, Johnny Mac is talking to Clay and just said that if it were a double eviction, he would send her home next.
Is Vanessa’s game ruined? Is she done in this house? Absolutely not. Vanessa is the smartest person in that house and she is probably aware that the game has shifted. She knows that she needs to mend some fences and rebuild relationships. As much as she knows how bad it is to win so many competitions this early, I have no doubt Vanessa will try to win HOH tonight so that she can get her game back on track.
