Diary Room: Derrick Levasseur’s “Weekly Warriors” – Big Brother 17 Week 4

Another week in the books for these houseguests and for most of them, it was a pretty easy week. Although some were allowed to set it to “cruise control” for the a few days, others took advantage of the situation and improved their position in the house.

If you would have asked me a few weeks ago, I would have told you that Jason Roy would most likely be evicted shortly after his partner-in-crime, Da’Vonne Rogers, exited the house. It appeared that he really didn’t have any solid allies outside of Da’Vonne and was therefore labeled as “expendable” to most of the remaining houseguests.

Well here we are two weeks later and Jason now appears to not only have a group of people who are willing to protect him, but also other houseguests wanting to work with him. We saw prime examples of both these situations just this week. We had James Huling and Meg Maley vowing to take him off the block if they won POV and Vanessa Rousso actually saving him with the veto in an attempt to build a report.

Additionally, Shelli Poole has started to divulge information to him and just a few hours prior to me writing this article, Austin told him about the twins, including Julia’s name! Quite the turnaround if you ask me.

That being said, Jason is still a vocal, outgoing person and someone who will always be in danger of going home if he’s on the block but props to him for adjusting his approach and building new relationships. Looks like that loyalty vote he threw to Da’Vonne might have struck a cord with some people…

For my second “weekly warrior”, we still have John McGuire hanging on to the spot, but barely. John is playing a good game but he has a few variables working against him. First of all, everybody in the house likes him. Nice when you’re at work or in school but not in the Big Brother house (If they don’t think they can beat you, they won’t take you to the end). Second, he has already won a few competitions and always seems to do well even in the ones he doesn’t win.

Again, if they feel they can’t beat you, it becomes more enticing to send you home. Finally, he has thrown a lot of competitions and if that gets out to the rest of the houseguests (especially the ones who were partnered with him), it will damage his relationships and create and easy argument to send him home. Nobody wants to be in a BOB with a habitual competition thrower.

Johnny Mac needs to step his game up, win an HOH, use it to build a few relationships (other than with Becky), and show that he’s someone who can help them get to the end. Relationships are building fast in that house and I would hate to see Johnny get close to the end and then voted out just because he was the odd man out.

Some players, like Jason and Johnny Mac, catch my attention for their strong gameplay. Austin Matelson is not one of those players. Austin proved to us early on that he is not very knowledgeable about the facets of Big Brother and also doesn’t appear to be very in-tune with what’s going on around him. But I could overlook those flaws.

The bottom line was he had a great relationship with Vanessa and was part of the “Sixth Sense”, a strong alliance that was willing to protect them. Then he was struck by cupid’s arrow and it all went downhill from there. His blind love for Liz has seriously jeopardized his game. He himself has said that he would sacrifice his own game just to protect hers. Just in the last 12 hours, Austin decided it was a good idea to tell Jason about the twins in an attempt to build a relationship with him.

Mind you, he did not consult with the “Sixth Sense” before doing so. Naturally, Jason told Shellie, Shellie told Clay and Vanessa, and now you have them talking about moving forward with alternate houseguests. Congratulations Austin, you just blew up the two best things you had going for you in the game. I hope for his sake he is able to survive long enough to make it to the jury house with Liz. Problem is, Liz is actually playing a decent game and if she has it her way, will never step foot in the jury house. Judas and his top hat will not be happy…
