The Power of Veto competition is coming up later today as the Big Brother 17 Houseguests went into a late lockdown for what might be a more simple comp than the HGs have seen in recent weeks.
The new HoH named her nominees during Friday’s Nomination Ceremony before following that up with a verbal beat down that left them bewildered and scattered getting ready for their chance at safety.
Flashback to 10:42 PM BBT 8/28 to find James and Meg, this week’s newly minted nominees, discussing their best chances with this week’s Power of Veto. There seems to be a general concern that James might do something crazy like use the Veto on Meg if he were to win. Why do we think that? Because he’s said it a few times.
Meg admits that they have to realize that unless one of them wins the Veto then things aren’t going to change and they’re going to stay on the Block.
Both Meg and James agree that if they weren’t on the Block together then it’d be a no-brainer that they’d save the other, but this puts them in a tricky position. James wonders if it’d be better for them if he won the Veto and then gave it to Meg for her safety. Meg is adamant that James must not do that.
Meg says the two of them will have a better chance of both staying if James wins the Veto, saves himself, and then it’s Meg against either JMac or Steve. I’d agree. James is a much more tempting target. Remember Jackie vs Meg during the Double Eviction? There’s a reason Meg isn’t targeted.
James suggests she could be right as the HGs wouldn’t want to “waste an HoH on you.” Heh. Meg says no, that’s not it. (Yes it is.) She thinks the Austwins would prefer to see JMac go over her. I’d say both points are correct.
Again we hear James discuss using the Veto on Meg if he wins it, but she says he is absolutely “not allowed to pull a Clay.” I’m really hoping James is just talking things up and wouldn’t really consider using it on Meg if he gets the chance. Should he do that then just send him right on out the door because he’d deserve it.
So what are the other Houseguests thinking at this point? Well we’ve got the Austwins out there and I think it’s safe to say if they win it then none of those three would use the Veto and would most likely really prefer everyone on the Block to just stay exactly where they are. Vanessa and Steve are working on their own plans though.
Flashback to 11:58 PM BBT 8/28 as Vanessa and Steve talk alone in the HoH room. Vanessa says production may be adapting this week’s Veto game based on whether or not they want James to stay in the game. No, production has these comps planned out and ready to go well in advance of knowing that week’s situation, but okay.
Vanessa tells Steve if production wants James to stay it’ll be something like “Game of Throws” but if they want him to go it’ll be “Stay/Fold”. Now Vanessa had already predicted it’d be the “Stay/Fold” game so she could just be saying that to give herself even more justification leverage in house discussions. Or maybe she really believes that, but she shouldn’t.
Vanessa says her real concern here is that James wins the Veto because that’ll make things very tough to send Meg home. Yep, I’d have to agree. Vanessa claims James isn’t her target, though we know she’s told others differently, and that Meg coming down would make things much easier than James escaping to make sure the Goblins are split up.
Preparing for the possibility of a Stay/Fold Veto comp Steve begins to explain to Vanessa the strategy in having a group agree to all fold except for one ally who stays in and tries to take out the target. Vanessa tells Steve she’d be “rotten” (in her terrible Scottish accent) at trying to be that Stay player but thinks Steve would be great at it. Heh.
I imagine Vanessa would be excellent at playing in the stay & guess role but she doesn’t want to be the one who could get knocked out early so she’s most likely saying she’s terrible so she can fold her way to the end and the win. A much better strategy for her own game to make sure she has a better chance at controlling every decision this week.
Later today the Veto players will be picked and with eight Houseguests left only two will be sitting on the sidelines to watch this one play out. James and Meg know if they get HG Choice they should try to get Julia in there since her win record sits at zero. There really aren’t any other “good” options for them since as they mentioned no one is going to be playing on their side.
Last week we had an extremely late night comp for the face-morph challenge and that one lasted nearly five hours. As much fun as monitoring Jeff Loops for 5 hours until 2AM was, I’m hoping we’ll get something easier this time around that plays mid-day and takes just a few hours. We’ll keep you posted though on when players are picked and the competition kicks off.
While we wait, who do you hope to see play and win this week’s Power of Veto for BB17?
Update: Veto players have been picked. All of the Austwins were selected. John and Steve will be sitting this one out. We’ll keep watching to see what this could mean for scenarios the HGs start plotting.
James and Meg are discussing that this could be their chance to go to Austin and convince them that this is a chance to get out Steve or JMac by getting the Veto and using it on one of them.
Update 2: Veto competition is underway as of 12PM BBT. Spoilers before too long.
