Big Brother 15 is set to offer an array of new twists this season when it premieres tonight on CBS. So far production has provided details on at least three twists the all-new cast will face through their “100 Days” battle to win the half-million dollar prize. Here is what we know to date to get you ready for when Big Brother starts tonight.
Big Brother Twist #1 – “No-Floater Summer”
Two weeks ago during a Twitter AMA, host Julie Chen announced “The twist makes it a no-floater summer!” This set off a flurry of speculation including the possibilities of teams to force an immediate alliance amid the HGs. How could production prevent floating? While it’s not a well-liked method, it can still be very effective in the game. Would this just turn out to be a flop of a twist out of the gate?
Over time we’ve learned more about just what will make this a “no-floater” season and that brings us to the next two twists which support the first.
Big Brother Twist #2 – “MVP” Weekly Vote
Each week America will be voting for an “MVP” player. Initial reports offered little details except that HGs would need to watch out and change up possible plans to lay low.
“The Big Brother MVP will force the houseguests to rethink their strategies. With America rewarding good game play, it doesn’t pay to be a floater this summer,” said Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan,Executive Producers of Big Brother.
Of course that’s a joke. America will reward whatever facet of the HGs they want. It could be the guy with the best smile or the girl with the blondest hair. America reliably voting on “good game play” is a farce. Viewers will vote for their favorite, and that’s what production really wants, to help fan favorites.
We also know the MVP role will be a secret within the house. According to a leak of Julie Chen’s premiere night script, the HGs will not be told of the MVP. We expect this to be a secretive Diary Room reveal, but don’t know if it’ll be up to the holder as to whether or not he or she will inform the rest of the house. After a few weeks a stack of HGs will know what’s going on, but who will be the first to publicly share it?
You can vote now online at CBS.com or wait for tonight’s premiere to make sure you know exactly how this will all work. Voting for week 1 remains open until 11:59PM PT.
Big Brother Twist #3 – Three Nominees
Playing off the MVP twist will be an interesting idea with some real potential: three nominees. Every week the HoH will still nominate two HGs for the chopping block but a third will be added as well. Just how this happens is supposed to be somewhat of a mystery, but it seems pretty clear the weekly MVP will be making this decision.
What happens if the MVP is also one of the nominees? I don’t see that being an issue for selecting a third nominee. In fact it’ll really put the pressure on for them to make a game-saving choice even if it means going against his or her own alliance.
With one more option for eviction the dynamics could really change up this season and make for an even better viewing experience. I can not wait to see how this angle plays online with the Live Feeds.
What do you think of these new twists for Big Brother 15? Did production strike just the right balance or did they go to far? Inviting America to have such controlling power in the game is worrisome, but it will still be up to the HGs for how they let the votes turn out each week. Well, if you discount the DR influence, of course.
