Diary Room: Adam Poch’s Player Rankings: Big Brother 17 – Week 6

Well, the power shift we have been waiting for the last 4 weeks finally came true – and we saw how you can go from the penthouse to the outhouse in a week.

Shelli & Clay think they are the cutest couple in the BB house since JeJo – oh boy – they are soooo wrong about that. More about that later… much more in fact! But first – lets see how everyone did this week. Put your bibs on kids – it’s time for another edition of Bacon/Tofu!

James Huling – 6 strips of Bacon (one extra for having Brass Balls) – yes normally I only give up to 5 strips of bacon – but that’s how good of a week James had. Almost every year in the endurance comps we see people make deals to ensure their safety. James had no intention of honoring the deal he made with Shelli – and promptly put her and her boy toy on the block. Then how did he finish his week – by winning Veto and keeping all the power in his hands.

James sat there in the wee hours Sunday into Monday and listened to Clelli’s last minute plea to use the Veto on one of them and backdoor someone else. Remember in Season 14 when Dan did the same thing to Frank? Well, James listened – but decided to not “pull a Frank” and left his nominations the same. The kid is here to play his game and for that – bacon bacon bacon!!!!

Jackie Ibarra – 4 strips of Bacon – once the punch line to many “who is she” jokes the first few weeks, Jackie has come alive and is showing she is a no nonsense type of girl. She has a BS meter like no other in the house this year. Not only can she sense when people are lying, but calls them out on it when it’s beneficial to her, and keeps her mouth shut when it can hurt her. Fingers crossed she can win HoH this week and keep the power on her side of the house.

Austin Matelson – 3 strips of Bacon (one for each one of his personalities) – Lost in all the Clay/Shelli drama this week is how Austin went from potential backdoor option last week to sitting pretty this week. When Julia came into the house, it all of a sudden made Austin even more powerful. He is now seen as part of a 3 headed monster – who can control 3 jury votes. He has layed low despite the house finding out about his hinky vote for Audrey. Yes – he’s still a target of sorts – but with his minions looking out for him, he’s in a much better spot than he was 10 days ago.

Meg Maley – 2 strips of Bacon – sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Meg definitely lucked out this week by James winning HoH as she had an easy week. She had no stress that she would be nominated, backdoored, and did not have to say goodbye to a friend, which has been rare for her this game. She did keep her ears open and starting to come alive as a player – 43 days into the game – but remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint.

Becky Burgess – 1 strip of Bacon – if you look “playing both sides of the house” in the Big Brother dictionary there is a picture of Becky. She still has the trust of Vanessa, the Austwins, as well as getting in tighter with Jackie, James, and Meg. No one knows her secret agent talents, but this is a tricky spot to be in. You have to watch everything you say and do, and I do not think she will be able to keep it up long enough to win.

Now on to the tofu players this week.

Julia Nolan – 1 strip of Tofu – welcome to the game Julia, we can all finally see you become your own player. Too bad we have not seen that yet. She seemed like she had her own brain when swapping in and out with Liz, but now that she is in the house full time, she seems easily persuaded and is just a number for Austin & Vanessa.

Liz Nolan – 1 strip of Tofu – along with her twin sister, Liz has been relatively under the radar this week – which is good to get by the next few weeks, but boring to watch. I do see her making a power move before her sister, but when will that happen – before or after she gets put ont he block next to Austin or Julia?

Vanessa Rousso – 2 strips of Tofu – I have never seen Vanessa play poker, but I can only assume she has won so much money because she is a smart player – looking for the right time to make a big play, and the right time to hold back. Sadly in the BB house she is always looking to make the big play. She talks about integrity and hating liars – yet she makes at least 3 contradicting deals each week.

Lucky for Vanessa, she has strong players around her keeping her safe for now, but people are for sure catchign on to her and when she makes the wrong play at the wrong time – she will be spending plenty of time working on her card shuffling skills in the jury house.

Steve Moses – 3 strips of Tofu – after the events that happened last week, the line in the sand was drawn and Steve is still just wandering around seemingly clueless. Even though he has alliances with Vanessa (Students of Sound), and Vanessa & the Austwins (Freaks & Geeks) – those people were throwing his name out to be a target this week to keep themselves safe. They keep talking about getting him out to get further. Steve’s inability to see what’s going on around him hurts to watch.

John McGuire – 4 strips of Tofu – I gave him Tofu two weeks ago, should have given him Tofu last week, but this week I have to give him Tofu! Did he really cry when talking with Shelli & Clay about their impending breakup? I hope to god that it was all a trick and we will find out when we see his DR session – but I think too many weeks of being a pawn for them has given him some sort of Stockholm syndrome. If it turns out he fake cried – he will get bacon no matter what next week – but for now, enjoy the tofu buddy!

That brings us to a first in my Bacon/Tofu rankings. We do not have a Tofurkey of the Week this week. We have TWO Tofurkeys of the Week this week! Yes – for the first time ever – I am giving out the award to two people. And I have never seen any duo more deserving than Shelli Poole & Clay Honeycutt.

After running the house for the last 4 weeks (along with their ally Vanessa) – the tables turned and they found themselves in the hot seat that they put others in. Instead of seeing it as “just game” – they took it so personal and have cried, stomped, threw hissy fits, and been generally annoying to watch. OK OK – yes, I know first hand that the house can cause people to turn ugly – and I will give them the benefit of a doubt once they walk out of the house. But their actions this week have been embarassing to watch.

To top it all off, Clay was campaigning to keep Shelli in the house. This strategy worked when Brendon won the Veto and used it on Rachel back on Season 13 – but that’s because they were already a real life couple. Clay has known Shelli for 6 weeks. I guess he thinks the NFL will be calling him after he gets off the show and he will make 500K or more.

Shelli on the other hand was willing to give up so much information to keep herself safe this week – but did not give all the info and then complained when James did not take their deal. I know this sounds mean, but I cannot wait for them to get out of the house and see that they were not as popular of a showmance as JeJo was. Hell, they are not even as popular as April & Ollie!

OK – there ya have it – that’s my take on the houseguests this week. Do you agree with me, or think I am off my rocker? Comment below – I really look forward to reading your opinions each week as much as if not more than you look forward to reading this column. I said earlier I wanted Jackie to win HoH next week just to see the other side of the house scramble and see who sells out who this week.

At the same time, I would love to see Becky or Johnny Mac win – just because they have been such wildcards – and this would force them to have to make a move and choose a side. Who do you want to win HoH this upcoming week? Again – let me know in the comment section below.
