Big Brother 22 Episode 8 Recap: Janelle And Kaysar Find Themselves In Familiar Territory

On Sunday night’s Big Brother 22, we got a sweet montage of legendary All-Stars Janelle and Kaysar’s long-running Big Brother relationship. They first bonded in Big Brother 6, then played together again in Big Brother 7. Now, 15 years later, the pair are back together again and have found themselves in very familiar territory as the house targets.

The episode picks up right after the Head of Household competition. Tyler lets us know right away that he’s ready to take care of Janelle and Kaysar since they have his alliance figured out.

And since Tyler and Cody want to keep Janelle and Kaysar from gaining any numbers, they decide to form an alliance with Enzo, Dani, Bayleigh and Da’Vonne. That group is called the Slick Six, but Cody let’s us know it’s a totally bogus alliance. Da’Vonne, however, really thinks it’s the real deal.

It’s time for previous have-nots to pick the new have-nots. David picks … no one, Enzo volunteers. Kaysar picks … no one, Cody volunteers. Christmas picks Bayleigh. And Nicole says she’s “going to pick someone who hasn’t done it before and likes to talk about me, Janelle.”

Janelle doesn’t immediately say anything to Nicole, but you can see the hears moving in her head. In her Diary Room session, she lets us know she’s had it with Nicole’s “nasally whiny voice” and even does a pretty spot-on impersonation of her. So she calls Nicole out after walking in on Nicole talking about her have-not remark to Janelle. It wasn’t as dramatic as I had hoped, but it was still kind of fun to see.

Have-Not Drama: whose side are you on? #BB22

And since this is pretty much an all Janelle and Kaysar episode, we get a montage looking back at their time in the Big Brother house together. We get to see how they first bonded over that chess game back in Season 6, and how they went on to play in the first All-Stars season the following year. Then we cut to this season and how they pretty much picked up where they left off. There really hasn’t been a closer, non-romantic relationship in this game.

Needless to say, the Janelle and Kaysar episode filler was far more entertaining than the one about the BB house bidet.

After all that episode filler, we get to see what Tyler is thinking about this week. Of course he’s still got his sights on Kaysar and Janelle, and with Cody cheering him on, it’s going to be an easy (boring) week.

But since we can’t have a totally suspenseless episode, it’s time to set up a possible new target this week. Dani overhears Da’Vonne and Bayliegh talking to Janelle so now they all think Day is playing everyone … and then before the Safety Suite competition, Day asks some people to pick her so she can have the punishment just for fun. And that turns into Tyler thinking Day doesn’t trust him. So basically they’re setting up their next targets for when Janelle and Kaysar are done. That’s how modern Big Brother players play. They’ve always got to have a next target ready to be mobbed and isolated.

Now it’s time for the final Safety Suite competition. This week it’s all of Tyler’s alliance playing so it doesn’t even matter what happens. For this competition, the HGs have to make their way through a maze of lasers to grab the safety sphere. The player with the fastest time wins safety for the week.

Everyone but Memphis actually tries to win, but throws it because he doesn’t want to have to deal with Janelle and Kaysar trying to get him to save them. Let’s check out the results.

Results

  • Nicole 15:36
  • Memphis 14:33
  • Enzo 4:41
  • Dani 6:04

Enzo wins safety! And he picks Christmas for his plus one. That means she’s also safe, but will end up with a punishment. Da’Vonne isn’t happy and knows now to watch out for Enzo and Christmas. Janelle knows right away that Memphis threw the competition because he doesn’t want to have help her or Kaysar.

Kaysar decides to check in with Tyler because that’s just what you do if you don’t feel safe in the BB house. He knows he’s going up, but he has to at least talk things out with Tyler. And Tyler is pretty condescending and Kaysar gets no where with him because Tyler has that new-school mob mentality.

Now it’s Janelle’s turn. And he plays the same cards with her saying “we were so cool at first!” She knows she’s going up, so she really just wants to play in the veto. So she asks to be put up outright to try for the veto. Tyler pretends to listen to her suggesting he use her as a shield. But we all know he’s just going to nominate her.

And to no one’s surprise, Janelle and Kaysar’s photos come up on the memory wall at the nomination ceremony. And as this episode has shown, this is nothing new for that duo. They’re also a target together.
