Diary Room: Big Brother 16 Week 9 Player Rankings By Adam Poch

So, is anyone still watching Big Brother? Based on the internet chatter – it sounded like everyone was gonna stop watching if Zach was evicted. Wait, you are still watching? Yeah – you know you are – just like me, you’re addicted to this 13 week roller coaster ride.

Sadly though – most of this season has been a merry-go-round rather than a roller coaster, but I have been saying for weeks – the bloodbath is coming, we just have to wait ANOTHER week. Let’s take a look back this week and see who has earned their bacon – and who is forced to eat tofu!

Christine – 3 strips of Tofu – Christine seemed to be upset that the person she stabbed in the back came back in the house – and I have yet to see her try and mend that relationship with Nicole. She has complained over and over that everyone in the jury house hates her. When the opportunity presented itself to her to do a power shift in the house (again) she let it fizzle out – and that’s been pretty much her game this season. She is worried about not having the votes at the end – but we all predict she will not even be in that position.

Frankie – 2 strips of Tofu – Frankie dodged a bullet this week as he could have easily been one to go up on the block as a renom if Donny or Nicole came down. He continues to think that everyone loves him, but the whispers are getting louder every week. That false sense of security could come back to haunt him. However he has shown he can handle the pressure, and is a strong competitor. For him to haveany chance of being handed the big check, he will have to rely on his physical game, not his social game from here on out.

Donny – 1 strip of Tofu – I really do not want to give him Tofu – but for a HUGE Big Brother fan, not knowing what happened on what day cost Donny the HoH this week. OK, I know that when the challenges happen – adrenalin is pumping, and its tough to concentrate – but Donny’s been grace under pressure all season, so watching him blow that comp was disappointing for him (and even more so for us!).

Kudos for him trying to get Team America to create a task where they would shake things up in the house – but it never went anywhere. Now it looks like he will have a date with Julie tomorrow night, and he will be chilling out in the jury house with all of his friends. This will not be the last we see of ole Donny Thompson, he is all but a lock to be asked back when BB does their next installment of All-Stars! (oh great, any slim chance I had to come back is now gone… he probably took the spot reserved for Enzo, Casey, Chef Joe, Spencer, or myself!)

Caleb – 2 strips of Bacon – you know its a slow week when I give someone bacon who has not really been around / involved much in the action this week. But Caleb doing the ninja stuff and then falling on his ass during the Sunday night CBS episode was hysterical. I usually replay over and over when someone slams hard during a challenge (think Chima BB11 getting smacked with the diploma) – so this was a treat for the 12 yr old in me.

Derrick – 4 strips of Bacon – still the frontrunner to take home $500K worth of bacon this season Derrick has been great at keeping his finger on the pulse of the house. He is still letting other people take the blame for his actions. His lack of trust with Donny was exemplified this week when a seed was planted to keep Donny around one more week. As Donny said to Team America a few weeks ago, that he was here to play for all the marbles not just the TA $5K tasks – Derrick is also playing for the win first & foremost.

Derrick knows that Donny at the end of the game would be tough to beat – and now he can get out a threat to his game without all the blood on his hands. His jury management is second to none in the history of Big Brother. Yeah, I said it – go ahead Dan fans – take a shot at me. But if you break it down – you know it’s true!

Nicole – 1 strip of Bacon – Nicole won the battle of the jury members and earned her way back in the house. It has taken a few days but she is now fully back in, and starting to rebuild the friendships she had before & even made a new friendship with Victoria. While her winning the HoH this week would have been amazing – if she can pull it off next week, she will get that house scrambling like never before this season. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE win HoH!

Victoria – 1 pint of Glucose – I cannot give Victoria bacon or tofu – as she has almost gone back to “who” status this week gamewise. But she scared the house & us when she was dehydrated & passed out in the bathroom. I never want to see anyone leave the game without getting voted out. I will give her a break, and hopefully next week she can actually do something worth commenting on.

That brings us to the Tofurkey of the Week… and for the first time ever – the HoH & POV winner – who holds all the power – is a Tofurkey. The last time Cody won HoH, he was too scared to make a big move and put Caleb up on the block. He sat around afterward whining that he was too chicken to pull it off. So now was his big chance to show the world as well as himself & his fellow HG’s that he was the man! And what does he do? Makes the safe nominations, does not use Veto to get out a threat, and spend the rest of the week cuddling with a married woman.

If you have been reading my columns all season, you know I am a Cody fan from day 0 because he’s a Jersey boy – but his game is all bark & no bite. How many times have we heard him say how mad he is at people and how much he wants to bash them in the face (or something like that) – but everytime he has the chance to do something – he puts his tail between his legs and runs back behind the safety of Derrick.

IF for some reason he gets to the Final 2 – unless something changes in the next 4 weeks – he will have zero shot of bringing home the bacon! I still hold hope that he can bring the $$ back to Jersey, but at this point, I’d say Caleb has a better chance of getting a date with Ariana Grande than Cody has to win BB16.

OK – there we go – another week in the books. Speaking of Bacon – I will be making some appearances the next couple of weeks at Bacon events

Sat August 30 – Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game – Fan appreciation day – http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t1410

Sat September 6 – Pig Island – Brooklyn NY – http://www.pigisland.com/ – Judging the dishes with Rob Burmeister from Chopped & 2014 winner of Cutthroat Kitchen

Sat September 13 – Bacon Bowl – Bentonville AR – http://www.baconbowl.net/ – Judging the dishes with Spencer from BB15

If any of these events are near you – come on out – I will give you bacon & not tofu!!

  1. Ahhh, Adam, you have a heart(Victoria)! But is there such a thing as double tofurkey? This would be a great opportunity to hand it out to Cody.

  2. Spot-on, Adam! Cody definitely deserves “Tofurkey of the Week” for his spineless inaction. All bark and no bite. Jersey boy or not, as I’ve said previously, he’s lucky he’s pretty, because he sure is dumb. He’s practically handing the money over to Derrick who’s going to sail to the $500k.

  3. I actually think Cody is getting out a big threat in Donny because if Donny won HOH, he said he would put up Cody and Derrick. And, if Donny gets to the end, he would beat anyone except possibly Derrick; but there’s a good possibility he’d beat him as well. So Donny is definitely someone they don’t want to keep around.

    • You’re undoubtedly correct, however, from Cody’s perspective, he had a target in mind not once, but twice, and allowed Derrick to change his mind for him on both occasions. Cody’s not playing his own game and *that’s* what I take issue with. Maybe it’s smarter to get rid of Donny this week, but that doesn’t change the fact that Big Brother is an INDIVIDUAL game and doing all of Derrick’s bidding has left Cody in a completely untenable situation. Unless he can somehow make it to F2 with Christine, there’s no way he’s going to win based on his gameplay.

      • You’re right. Everybody loves Donny and Nicole but refuse to see why they want them out. Donny is a POV comp beast and Nicole is a HOH comp beast. Just because they didn’t win this week doesn’t mean the won’t next week. Donny has won 1 HOH 2 BOB’s and 3 or 4 POV’s, Nicole 3 or 4 HOH’s. They are a danger to anyone wanting to win the game. Frankie is the next comp beast (actually the top) he has won 3 HOH’s 1 POV and 1 BOB (might be wrong on his totals). Donny is by far my favorite but IMO Derrick is playing the best strategic game.

      • I thought Nicole won only two HOH’s and Frankie got credit for four HOH’s? I could be wrong though.

      • Nicole has had 6 wins: 3 HOH, 2 BotB, 1 re-entry. She was only picked for 2 POV and loss both of them.

      • HOH with Donny in which she remained HOH, HOH with Derrick ( I believe) in which she was dethroned. Who did she win the third HOH with because I can’t remember. Henceforth the reason I said only two HOH’s.

      • 3rd HOH win was with Christine. Nicole was dethroned, renom’d and evicted.

You’re right on the other 2 HOHs. I checked the Spoiler Board. :)

      • But it was Cody’s HOH not Derricks. Cody needs to play his game and Frankie is a bigger threat to Cody than Donny.

      • Actually, if your gonna have Cody think, Derrick is the is threat. And keeping a major floater like Victoria is a big mistake, just as it was last year. Spencer road theblock almost all the way, GM won something but not notable, and of course Andy..no blood on his hands.

    • Why not is what I wonder…Donny is not a threat in that he can win endurance or mental comps like maybe Frankie, Cody or Nicole can???

    • I don’t necessarly think Donny would have a shot of winning. IF Donny put a few of the people in the large alliance, and the large alliance didn’t actually turn on each other, wouldn’t they vote for whoever is actually sitting beside Donny instead? Ex. Frankie vs. Donny. Wouldn’t the Detonators all vote for Frankie? It’s a 9 person jury, 5 to win. So Caleb, Cody, Christine, Victoria would all have to be evicted (on jury) wouldn’t they all vote Frankie and Zach as swing.
He’s not a sure thing at the end, unless he’s against Victoria

    • Donny was not a threat to Cody. A threat to Derrick, yes. And that’s why he’s going because Derrick is the HOH. Cody even said last night that him getting Donny out helps Derrick but getting Frankie out would of helped Cody. So being that Cody knows Frankie is after him why play Derricks game?

  4. Totally right again! I’m hoping Nicole wins HOH. Derrick needs to start winning some comps. Jury looks at that. Love reading this every week. Watch out for Vic she’s starting to play, I think.

    • Watch out for Vic? How hysterical would that be? But who could she possibly go to F2 with that the jury would give it to her?

      • If Victoria was in last 3 with Cody and Derrick and won the best of three competition for the last eviction and evicted Derrick, she will have the right to argue that she bidded her time because she did not have alliances in the house. Then, took out the biggest threat which was Derrick. Considering that Victoria took out the biggest threat, won 2/3 of the last HOH competition, she can argue that she played the best game compared to Cody who has not really done anything game play wise. While, it does not look she can win, she might be able to do so if she is able to beat Derrick and Cody for that last HOH. She also, does not have blood on her hands like the others. Pretty much she is an outsider.

      • Except that girl is totally in love and devoted to Derrick. I am not a fan of hers, what she did to Zach, that was like a child. Not even sure why. But watching her gaze at Derrick last night was disgusting. Christine hasn’t hid Cody but Derrick has tried. His wife will see the montages on youtube and flip.

      • She may suddenly wake up when she realizes that she may actually win $500,000. Then, she might just do the unthinkable! Shocker, as Danielle Donato likes to say.

      • Can’t see her winning anything, so then someone would have o choose her. Derrick has been working on that too. “if I only had a brain comes to mind”.

    • But Derrick DOESN’T need to start winning comps. A true testament to how good you are is if you hold no power and STILL get everyone to do your bidding. Derrick is running the house and has rarely been in power. Dr. Will and Dan are the two greatest players ever and what do they have in common – they rarely won competitions. They got things to go their way without getting blood on their hands.

It’s easy to make big moves and control the game when you’re the HOH or POV holder. It’s a lot more impressive to do all that when you have nothing.

      • He would have to say then he is a floater, or admit to all of them he has manipulated and lied to all of them. He needs a few comps under his belt. If standing next to Frankie/Caleb/Cody he would look like the person who piggy backed of people who actually won the comps.

    • I have no idea how after 16 seasons of BB, and 28 of Survivor, people still things winning competitions is important. It isn’t, and it never has been.

      • Well, if Donny could not win comps, Derrick would have gotten rid of him long ago. So it is important still.

      • If you can’t stay without winning competitions, you’re a bad player and would be going home anyways. Yes, they make an impact week to week, but they should not be considered important by a jury. And they absolutely should not be used to judge a player

    • Derrick cannot win comps like the others. I think that is the major reason he has kept Caleb and Frankie. Nichol, well her head is not there since she left. She hasn’t even really placed. Now if she did what Hayden told her to do, win HOH, put up derrick and Cody, at least she would go down for n actual big play. Derrick has none. He sits and thinks for his followers. He came with an advantage any way you look at it. Can not be surprised that he can easily manipulate most players. He has been trained. Donny, is the one he is unable to control.

    • OMG what’s wrong with everybody, Derrick is the only guest who has won nothing in this game yet they are still intimidated by him….a no-winner.

  5. victorias whole game is boring. i dont care if she evicted all the players left. she is a floater and cant win anything unless its by luck

  6. I just found out this week that Victoria is actually a contestant on BB and not just a prop on the set… although I still have my doubts.

  7. Not sure why Adam lumped Enzo in the category of crap players who won’t come back. Unless it was supposed to be an age thing, but Enzo is younger than them and actually does deserve to be brought back.

  8. First week I’ve agreed. I think you are spot on this week. Really enjoyed the read.

  9. Great column, Adam! I laughed all the way through it. You’re so right about Derrick being a better player than Dan. I hate to admit that, but ’tis true. Thing about Derrick is, he’s been able to have others do his bidding without having to be as devious as Dan. I loved watching Dan. But it’s been a thing of beauty watching Derrick play ‘Svengali’ all summer. GO NICOLE!!

  10. You’ve missed a lot Adam Caleb is actually in a final 3 with Derrick/Cody so Caleb was far from being his target. Caleb did tell him to put up Christine if Donny came off the block. Derrick then told Caleb they should get Christine out, like always something someone has already thought of Derrick takes credit for. Derrick’s jury votes are not to good. Hayden told Donny/Nicole as he left the house after the comp to target Derrick/Cody. Donny won’t have a chance to but he did say he would campaign in jury if he was evicted so Derrick would have no chance of winning the money. Jocasta/Hayden/Donny not a fan of Derrick’s so as of now jury is not looking very good. I am 100% sure Hayden will use he’s weekly game talk hour to explain to Zach how things really went down and how it was Derrick’s idea to evict him.

  11. So… Cody wins both major competitions, nominates two people who are outside his alliance and thus need to go, and he gets named Tofurkey? Not right. I’d give the award to Nicole for coming back with her head totally out of the game and promptly falling into the nomination seat.

  12. I don’t consider donny an allstar. His social game was poor. He waited too long to form an alliance. He’s likeable enough but that doesn’t elevate your game status to ‘all star’. Where is the schemeing, manipulation, friendships and bonds??? all lacking with poor OLD donny. never to be seen again… lol

  13. I’m so happy that im not the only one who thinks Cody was and has been a little b**ch about his HOH’s and I too have been a Cody fan. Its so frustrating! If my TV was a piece of crap I would have thrown my remote at it when he decided NOT to use the POV. Uuuugghhhhh!!!! But he would never win it all hopefully Derrick wins!!!! He honestly deserves it
