Joey Van Pelt is in a bad situation on Big Brother 16 and her recent moves only seem to be digging that hole deeper. Now she’s throwing it all at the wall in a big attempt that exposes one of this season’s big twists: Team America. Find out what she said and who she’s told.
Earlier today I was contemplating the situation for Team America and what might happen if Joey were to go home. To make sure I had the rules right I went back to rewatch episode 2 where Joey read off the Team America card. That’s when I noticed something else.
Joey has the choice on whether or not to reveal the twist making it her decision to expose or hide depending on what would help her game. I mentioned on Twitter then that Joey should have made a move similar to Adel’s in Big Brother Canada 2 where he converted a small but special Veto power in to huge leverage that kept him weeks longer in the game. Of course it would have been no guarantee, but simply a vague threat of a special power could have been enough to scare off a renom and keep her safe a bit longer even if only for a week.
Guess what just happened? Joey has started campaigning and using her ‘special power’ (Team America) as a bargaining chip. But wait and see just how she presents it. While I meant she should have done it before getting on the block, this is at least a game move worth trying.
Flashback on your Live Feeds to 1:06PM BBT to find Hayden and Joey alone in the Living room. He’s giving her advice on how to campaign when she makes the big reveal. Well a partial reveal.
Joey: I have something… that if I’m able to stay, I can really help people out.
Hayden: What?
Joey: I can’t say what it is. (Technically, she can, but she’s not telling.) … If I say, I won’t, I won’t be able to do it.
Hayden: I don’t really get that.
Joey: Alright, so I’m promising you right now, I will fight for you in this house if I stay here. I will keep your ass safe for 3 weeks if you keep me in here. I’m a better competitor than [Paola]. I can win [comps].
Hayden: Uh huh.
Joey: I was voted America’s… *whispers* America’s Favorite. *nods and smiles real big*
Hayden: What does that do though? Like what’s your? What do you get to do with that? Do you know?
Joey: *nods* That’s the thing. This stays between you and I. You promise? You have to f***ing promise!
Hayden: Yeah, absolutely. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to say. Either way I won’t say anything. Just marinate on it.
Joey: If I don’t stay though, I can’t, I can’t win it and I can’t share it. It literally starts after this Thursday. (Based on details from the show it’d be a week from this Thursday, but good idea to move it up.) So I really need to stay in the house. But that’s something I have that I can offer to people.
Hayden encourages her to bring it up to people if she thinks it’ll help her. He promises not to say anything and we’ll have to watch on that.
So she didn’t explicitly state what it was, but she’s put it out there and that’s all it takes. So whether she stays or goes, and especially if she goes, Hayden could share the news and the rest of the HGs will be on the lookout for something weird going on.
Kinda means that not only did Joey sink her game this week, unless this pulls her out of danger, then she also sank the Team America twist secrecy and the TA’s advantage of an unsuspecting house. I would have revealed this too if I was in that much trouble, but I would have done it days ago and bargained to be 100% out of danger by avoiding the block rather than having to expose my secret AND campaign for votes. She’s trying though and that’s good. It’s the best move I’ve seen Joey make yet.

Though doesn’t this depend on Hayden and whether or not he believed her? If he thought she was lying/pulling something out of thin air, then has the twist really been spoiled?
If she goes I really think he’d say what she told him. Plus with 3 more days to go there’s a good chance she’ll start trying to use it more.
It’s BB’s fault regardless. If they hadn’t allowed her to publicize it, they’d have their twist. BB never fails to ignore the repercussions of their twist.
They plainly stated it’s up to the houseguest whether they keep it a secret ir not. It’s smart of her to try and use it to her advantage.
Even if she survives the first eliminations then she’ll still be one of the first people to go. If she should survive then I’d would hope she knows better to keep her head down low, and stay out of trouble. Plus, she should talk to the super fans just to get an idea what to expect.
I think it could help her if any in there can be convinced she has a special power. The ones who are fans should remember Elissa(? Rachels) sister.
That’s true but I wouldn’t believe her about being America’s favorite simply because the game just started. Anyone in the house that has watched a full season knows America’s favorite isn’t voted on until much later when America has a chance to get to know the players. I think it would’ve been smarter of her to tell the truth about it being America’s alliance.
That’s not entirely true. There was a conversation between Christine and a couple of the other gals where they were commenting on how they don’t think anything is going to be “normal” this season with all the changes they’ve already seen. If the superfans are going to use that approach to not expect the norm they could very well be anticipating anything happening at any time which would better prepare them for the twist and be more accepting of changes. Just a thought…

This season sucks to me I just can’t get into the cast… They really didn’t get a good mix of regular joes and janes! And Frankie please I think reg people should be on this show…. Like it was in the beginning the best games where the first 10 now it’s who you know, who your related too and one or to joe blow!!! The live feeds suck, the tv 12-3 feeds suck bring back Showtime… If it wasn’t broke why change it??????
I don’t understand your reasoning for not liking the cast. It’s not like any of them are famous. They ARE regular Joes and Janes as far as I can tell. Do you have some inside info to share regarding how these people aren’t regular or how they got a special key for the BB house?
frankie is ariana grande’s brother… i believe that’s what they were referring to. she’s a pop star of some sort… LOL! oh also he was a popular youtube person before big bro.
Interesting. I’m pretty up to par with pop culture and I’ve never heard of either one of them so I’m still not thinking Frankie is any more special than anyone else in the BB house. Of course, according to FRANKIE, She’s way famous and he’s a Broadway STAR. A legend in his own mind :-)
I do have to agree with Wild Horse though on the BB After Dark on TVGN. I miss the commercial free feeds on Showtime big time. I can barely stand to watch it on TVGN and usually I don’t.
her current single “problems” is/was #2 on the billboard top 100 in the US and it’s charting world wide… sooo she is pretty popular…. and if you google images of frankie he’s been at a lot of high profile events with celebs so it’s not like they are unheard of… just sayin…
I agree. This cast doesn’t get me excited what so ever. And now that the twist has been reveled so early makes this season a flop. I don’t care if she’s trying to save herself. It takes away the fun on this twist.
Only person I care for is Donny, but even he’s not convincing me to be excited.

It’s possible they might be afraid she has TOO much power and get rid of her. You always run the risk of other hgs fearing someone elses “special powers”. Best way to get rid of that fear is to get rid of the hg that possesses it.
She’s got to tell more people for anything to happen. I think it could ruin the chances of the other TA members to complete a task and win ant money.
Whoever came up with Joey spilling the secret, I am glad that she didn’t just lie down. I think it would be a shock if Pow Pow was voted out. It would show Devin that he isn’t running the show. Besides I still like Joey more than PowPow
Agree, and if Joey tells a few more it could make them curious enough to keep her another week or two. I have seen the vote change in the last minute so anything is possible, though she most likely is going home.
production probably told her to try to use the twist to her advantage so that she would stay in and they could still do the twist. it is her best shot tho.
If production was really smart they would tell her to tell other HG if she gets voted out she will pass her power on to another HG and it would not be known who she picked to pass it. That would really make them paranoid. rofl
I’m sorry Wild Horse but I have to disagree with you. I really like this mix of HG’s this year. I think Frankie is a lot of fun to watch and he adds such a spark to the show. Donny turned out to be a lot more than a Duck Dynasty look alike,
And our police officer is playing the “I’m just a regular guy” card very well. You can see who’s standing out with the girls. I can do without several of the HG’s but they will soon bite the dust if Frankie and his alliance have their way. Great show! (Certainly better than last year!!)
Every year recently some Houseguests has tried to use the “I have a special power” card and I don’t think it ever really works to well so this might save her this week but I doubt it would in the long run.
