Big Brother 16: The Detonators Trigger A Self-Destruct

In another move to seal Zach Rance’s fate on Big Brother 16, his former alliance out’d their own existence overnight just in case he decided to do the same when he realized what was going on around him. Just in case. They completely exposed themselves just in case. Sigh.

Bomb Squad alliance - Hurt Locker
Another alliance goes *boom* – “Hurt Locker” – Souce: Universal Studios

Flashback to 5:25PM BBT 8/5 Cams 1/2 on the Live Feeds. Get your Free Trial now to watch. Frankie and Christine head upstairs so he can immediately propose an idea. He’s worried that Zach is going to blow up their Detonators alliance so how about they tell Nicole and Hayden that Zach proposed an alliance to them last night with the “sole purpose of getting Caleb & Hayden out of the house.”

The idea here is to say Zach proposed an alliance, but everyone rejected it immediately. This way if Zach says something on the way out then they can point to this story and say that’s what he was talking about, this alliance that never really existed, even though it did.

Frankie thinks taking this to Haycole will earn their trust and get them on board to evict Zach. They can also use the same story with Caleb, Frankie suggests. He’s not sure if they need to reveal the Detonators name though. Before they do this though Frankie wants to go talk to Derrick and Cody about the plan.

Derrick is resting in the Fire room when Frankie comes in to tell him the plan and get his approval. Flashback to 5:43PM BBT 8/5 Cams 1/2. Derrick thinks it would work, but wants to be sure to tell Caleb so he doesn’t think Derrick and Cody were hiding this from him. Remember: Caleb was not part of the Detonators and thought the Bomb Squad alliance, which ended weeks ago, was still active.

So about that whole “waiting to tell Nicole & Hayden” thing? Yeah, forget that. While Frankie is discussing it with Derrick downstairs and they agree to talk with Cody first we’re watching Christine upstairs spilling the fictional beans to Nicole. Oops. So much for getting their stories straight first.

Jump back to 5:44PM BBT Cams 3/4 to find Christine with Nicole in the HoH room. Christine tells Nicole that she was supposed to wait for Frankie, but for Nicole to just pretend she hasn’t told her.

Christine tells Nicole that Zach approached her, Frankie, Derrick, and Cody to form a five-member alliance called the Detonators (note that Christine has revealed the name). Christine says everyone is now on board to vote out Zach including Victoria and Frankie. Nicole is surprised that Frankie would want Zach out just over the alliance. Good observation, Nicole. Christine says it’s more than that.

Jump forward to 6:05PM BBT as Frankie finds Cody and Derrick in the bathroom. Cody is on board with the idea. Frankie suggests that they don’t need to name it unless Zach does on the way out. Frankie leaves and Cody talks with Derrick. They think it’s a fine idea and agree.

The guys are running the faucets and it’s very difficult to hear what they’re whispering at this point. Sounds like they’re planning to tell Haycole first. Derrick says something about when Christine goes to Haycole that Nicole and Hayden will say Cody & Derrick already told them. Too late, but they don’t know that Christine jumped the gun.

Later Cody goes to Nicole and Hayden separately to tell them the cover story. During his talk with Nicole, Cody tells her that Christine was not present when Zach proposed this idea. Oops oops oops. Nicole points out that Christine said she was there. These mismatching details should be setting off alarms for Nicole against all four HGs telling her the story, but she only questions Christine over it. Derrick & Cody play it well to make it sound like Frankie and Christine are running this scheme.

Eventually Cody and Derrick join Hayden and Nicole in the HoH room to discuss the story. Flashback to 8:13PM BBT. Here more conflicts in the story are revealed. Cody tries to cover and says Frankie went and told Christine later because he wanted her involved (on this alliance that you’re claiming was immediately dismissed, Cody?). Nicole also asks about if the alliance was named. Derrick & Cody deny that then say there was a weird name. Nicole says Christine claimed there was a name.

Frankie and Christine later meet with Haycole in the HoH room. Flashback to 9:30PM BBT as Frankie starts to tell his version to Nicole. Later Hayden joins the discussion and asks if Christine was there when Zach proposed this magical alliance. Christine says that she was. Later Hayden tells Nicole he made sure to ask that question to again catch the lie.

What a disaster. Christine completely screwed up here by needlessly rushing to tell Nicole her half-baked story. Reminds me of what Christine did over the weekend that destroyed Nicole’s trust in her. Christine still doesn’t realize that Nicole is very much on to her and any mistrust she should have against Cody and Derrick could be clouded by her anti-Christine stance right now.

Haycole know Christine and Frankie are lying, but how long before they catch on to Derrick & Cody’s involvement in peddling this tale? They might not and it’ll be the Hitmen’s lucky day if so.

The whole situation is so bizarre. Detonators are throwing away their numbers advantage of 5 + 1 (Caleb) by evicting Zach in part over concerns that he’s a loose cannon and could expose them. So they expose their alliance and their duplicity in one fell swoop.

Now the house could end up split by pairs and the biggest targets are likely to sit on Christine and Frankie at the moment. When the Double Eviction hits on Thursday I won’t be surprised to see either Christine or Frankie follow Zach out the door.

What do you think of the Detonators decision to out themselves to mitigate any later issues and gain Haycole’s trust? How do you think they should have handled the situation?

  1. Dumbest move in the game! First rule of BB is to lie, lie, lie. Second rule of BB is to deny, deny, deny.

    • I think they tried this… you’ve missed that all important condition: Make sure your lies are consistent and make sense!

    • This is why you carefully choose who is in your alliance. Twice these folks have had an alliance blow up on them because a member self destructed.

  2. What in the world are they thinking?!?! Never ever ever ever admit to an alliance! Duh! Deny, Deny, Deny.. This cast is WAY too honest.

  3. I’m really surprised that Derrick, of all people, would think this was a good game move. Even if Zach did try to blow up the Detonators on the way out of the house, Derrick could easily spin it as Zach just randomly trying to pit people against each other because that’s how he is.

Rule #1 in the Big Brother house, keep the lies simple. The more complex the cover story becomes, the more likely someone’s going to screw it up!

That said, I think having the house be split into pairs would definitely shake things up a bit.

    • Multiple pairs would be an interesting twist, but I don’t see Derrick allowing that to happen.

      • Yeah, but if things continue to break up as they are, the only person Derrick knows he can count on (and pretty much control) is Cody. Christine & Frankie would likely turn on each other with the proper prodding, but Hayden & Nicole seem pretty solid in their trust of each other.

That only leaves Derrick with Donny, Jocasta, Victoria & Caleb — not exactly the cream of the crop. (Except for Donny, but he & Derrick don’t really trust each other)

      • I can see Derrick and Cody pulling Victoria into the fold easily if they need 3 for numbers in a game of pairs.

      • There is another potential partnering (providing its Zach going home)… Donny & Jocasta. Now before everyone starts laughing, just think of how important they would become if they sold themselves as ”free agents” to the pair who have the HoH for the next couple weeks?

      • Definitely. Donny and Jocasta are almost a pair already so this isn’t a stretch at all. Very good point.

    • I agree. If anyone were to attempt to out the alliance on their way out the door, I’d want it to be Zach. Dude has a track record of trying to stir up drama.

    • I think the idea of telling Nicole/Hayden about Zach approaching them with an alliance in case he blew them up as he walked out the door is good in theory, just really really really poorly executed. Derrick, Cody, Frankie, and Christine needed to get their stories 100% straight before telling Nicole and Hayden about it. All the details needed to be the same. That’s where their problem was.

Also, they could have just denied it and said “if we were in an alliance with Zach, why would we vote him out?” Or if Zach tried ratting them out as he’s walking out the door, they could’ve said “that’s just Zach being Zach.”

      • I agree. All their stories didn’t match up. And I wish Nicole and Hayden would realize it’s not only Christine and Frankie lying but Derrick and Cody. Nicole’s distrust for Christine is so strong she only sees that.

      • I think Hayden will figure it out ahead of Nicole because he talks with the guys and can piece bits of info fast. He is flying under the radar but, I think he can make good moves if he becomes hoh. Hopefully, starting this Thursday. Put Christine and Frankie on the block.

    • He knew that Frankie and Christine were already going forward with it. Writing was on the wall; Zach is on his way out and HayCole and the rest want Christine and Frankie (two detonators) out. Not a bad idea for him to jump ship to the Rationale and at the same time keep Caleb and the floaters tight with him as well.

I agree though, had Frankie and Christine not already been going forward with it, it would have been easy to blame it on Zach. But, Christine and Frankie are very bad at this game and aren’t that smart.

  4. And funny enough, now Caleb arguably has the most power as an individual while having the smallest target on his back. If only he could figure it out.

    • I could argue that one! I think the power is going to be after the 2nd eviction tomorrow night. IMO, it’s going to either be Nicole/Hayden/Donny or Frankie/Christine with Cody & Derrick added to whichever side. I still see Vic, Caleb & Jocasta (in order of numbers importance) as the outsiders.

      • The 2nd eviction on Thursday is crucial. That HoH comp. is so important. But with both major alliances wanting Caleb on their side, he’s in a great position moving forward, but he doesn’t know it.

      • I sure would like to see Nicole, Hayden/Donny/Cody/Derrick. They could get ride of the house of horrors: Frankie, Christine, Caleb, Jacosta and Queen Vic.

      • Personally I would like Donny to pull in VapidVic with Nic and BowTie. They could work with Derprick and NoB@llsCody to get Fakie and Ratine out then take control. Just a little BB dream. And can you imagine Derprick’s face going out before VapidVic?

  5. Christine REALLY needs to go, she is trouble! (Reminds me of Helen) As for Frankie, anyone who calls him a floater is just wrong, he is involved in most every decision being made in this game…. except for the ones targeting him! Bye Zach!

    • I agree about Christine…time for the Detonators to push that button and Woooosh…she’s outta there!

    • I don’t think Chris can even be compared to someone like Helen. For one, Helen had weeks worth of opportunities to take out all her enemies and was at one time, in a position of power, before McCranda staged a coup and took her out.

Christine has and always been at the lowest caste of her alliance, only kept alive because she’s the BS/Detonator’s link to the other side. She doesn’t have any form of power in the game except being an informant to the house which is no longer becoming viable now that she basically screwed her side alliance unknowingly.

Helen brings people together before they stab her in the back. Christine is the one being brought over, without a knife for her to use with her stabbing, except maybe a butterknife to cut loose her only forms of protection: Amber and Hayden/Nicole.

      • sigh… again, different season, different people, different interactions… different, different, different…

      • Only similarity is that they both thought they were good at the game, while that was very far from the truth.

  6. Dumbarses! First, these people are too trustworthy. Never think you are safe when you are on the block. Zach should know this with how his alliance got rid of others who thought they were in an alliance with them (Amber). How they lie and string Caleb along. Why would even think he is safe!?!

Poor Zach (even though he played into it), is the scapegoat for everything, TA’s missions, setting Caleb against Amber (partially), and now for the Detonators.

Christine is the worse! What favor was she trying to get by telling the story first?

    • I understand what she was doing. She still thinks she’s close to Nicole so she wanted to be the one to let her know so Nicole thinks she has her back.
      Little does she know.

  7. See, this is why I watch this show, because despite all it’s stupidity, it can be actually sort of fascinating. Here is a house filled with people trying to avoid conflict at all cost, and one person who wants to create chaos for its own sake. They would rather control their alliance’s destruction than risk Zach destroy it on his way out and leave them with nothing to salvage. It’s like in ‘The Dark Knight’ when Alfred tells Bruce how they caught the bandit that wanted to watch the world burn: “We burned the forest down.” I love the social dynamic of this show and how it has a different effect on the game each season.

Now, as Matthew stated, this could be very bad for the Hitmen, but unlike Frankie and Christine, they have a backup plan. They could end up floating over to Hayden and Christine and hooking up with them if need be, so they only need to keep up their lie for a few days depending on the DE. With the position they’ve set for themselves, there is a chance for them to benefit from this. Frankie and Christine, on the other hand, don’t have such an escape route, and frankly I’m shocked that Frankie is nuking his game on his own based simply on the lies Derrick told him.

    • I have never seen a season like this one where they all blab their plans all the time…where is the secrecy in this house?

  8. I say Nicole and Hayden should pull Jacasta or Victoria, and get them alliance but don’t tell Derrick or Cody about it. I think it needs to be another woman.

  9. That is a very convoluted plan. I wish Nicole could see that just as Christine is lying all the rest are too. I either missed or forgot something so hopefully someone can remind me. What happened to the Frankie who was in bed with Zach on Sunday night to now. Why is he on board with getting out his bed buddy?

    • Matt explains it well in his post “Big Brother 16: Derrick Flips Zach’s Closest Ally”

      • ok I did read that already and forgot. Its just so hard to believe Frankies attitude turned around so quickly like that against his friend. But I do know Derrick can talk people into a lot of stuff. Thanks for the reminder, thats what happens when you never get enough sleep.

      • You should get the feeds. That’s the best part of the show. There’s still plenty of show left. You won’t regret it! :-)

      • (and here’s your 5% of the royalties)… Kidding. Yes, I admit its hard not having the live feeds, but sadly some of us don’t have the time to get on there and use it for what it’s worth. I rely on you guys to keep me up to date because I can’t even watch the show most days.

      • I get up at 5:30 eat and see some good stuff with my wake up coffee. Today it was Derprick and Fakie telling CrazedCaleb that Zach is going. Watching Fakie try to control the convo and Derprick just slides in and controls it. ÇrazedCaleb was justifying why he was voting Zach to Derprick and leaving Fakie out of the convo even though he kept trying to jump in. You can find great dynamics at the weirdest times.

      • I really, really don’t have the time either. But I got them anyway. Very rarely watch live, but use it a lot to go back using flashback and see some convo that are reported as important. It is worth the 24$ that it cost.

      • I don’t get on there a lot. Hardly ever during the day because I’m busy but they sleep all day so that’s good. I get on at night and if nothing’s going on I’ll get off. But I use my IPad so it’s easy to turn them on and off real quick. The best time (and usually when I don’t get sleep) is after HOH and after POV. That’s when all the scheming goes on. But it’s worth the money. When BBAD was on Showtime I paid an extra 15.00 a month for Showtime and only got to watch 3 hrs a night.

    • I think it’s good enough for now that she does see Christine lying. The rest will sort itself out.

  10. Christine’s a mess. I won’t miss her one bit when she gets evicted and doesn’t get the chance to return.

  11. I have to say this is the most loose-lipped people ever in BB. Usually there’s always 1 or 2, but here you had about 10. Now it’s down to 11 and you still have about 6 that can’t keep their mouths shut. Even Donny got a little LL with Christine then found out he couldn’t trust her. Derrick talks all the time and it’s only a matter of time till his lies start catching up. He needs to be careful. My favorite F2 would be Donny and Derrick. Since they don’t really trust each other I don’t see that happening. My prediction for Thursdays DE – Zach first and Christine second (if she doesn’t get HOH).

    • Derrick talks a lot, but he’s not spreading rumors or causing drama when he talks. He doesn’t throw people under the bus and to the best of my knowledge, doesn’t reveal who HE’S targeting. He doesn’t say stuff that can be used against him later. He talks, but it’s more to figure out what the other’s are thinking and where their heads are at. He gets information but rarely gives it.

      • But he also makes final 2 deals with everyone and that’s going to bite him in the ass. He just made a final 2 deal with Caleb last night. He’s covered by everyone because he has a final with everyone. As people get evicted the rest are going to start talking and he’s going to be a target.

    • I think it’s because they try to use some strategy from previous winners. The last 2 winners were rats and it worked for them, so I guess they’re all thinking whoever they feed information to will value them and keep them around. I started watching since season 11 and I don’t remember people volunteering to be have-nots except for Ian. Now everybody volunteers to be a have-not, and I think that is the stupidest strategy. People may like that you’re volunteering to be a have-not, but after a few days little sleep and bad food it’s hard to think straight.

  12. I want to see some diary room. This just seems to stupid to be legitimate. Someone must have ulterior motives…

  13. This whole disaster stems from Zach throwing that HOH tiebreaker cause he didn’t want to win 2 weeks in a row. Dumb. Plus Christine being butthurt over Zach nominating her the other week and moving against him. Hopefully Zach can come back or something.

  14. Caleb. Best BB player ever. Show them your physical strength the very first day. Lose and/or throw all other competitions. Fake a stalkermance to get the stronger female evicted. Get paired with the person thinks you dislike the most, beastmode it up to win the BoB. Have everyone wanting you on their side.

    BWAHHAHAHA

  15. I really hope that Donny wins the POV and then the second HOH tomorrow night. That is the best position to be in. I fear that if he wins HOH first then he would become an even bigger target. Derrick is still sitting in the best position in the house right now, followed by Cody. I can’t believe Derrick is playing so hard, yet no one has mentioned him as a target, except Donny. And I think Donny will honor the TA twist, but he really would be better to target both Derrick and Frankie.

    • We can definitely hope it works out this way. Sadly each time Donny wins something now, he becomes that much more of a dispensable target for the other groups….

  16. This proves that Frankie and Christine are idiots. If Zac doesn’t say anything on the way out they did this for nothing, and if he does no one probably would have believed him anyway. All they’ve done is cause more trouble for themselves. I still think Joc should go to split up her and Donny, but these people don’t play strategically they play on emotion .
This season is so screwed up, there’s a secret alliance the HGs think never existed even though it did, or does; another that ended weeks ago but one HG thinks he’s still in, and a bunch of floaters.
What is with Christine flirting with Cody? He could do way better than that!

      • Thanks for the info, I miss a lot B/C I don’t watch the feeds as I don’t have the time or the interest, so If I don’t read it here then I don’t find out about it, and poor Cody for having to get close her

  17. Even if they did not reveal it, you just need to use a bit of common sense to see who is in an alliance. For instance, Frankie, Derrick and Cody have never been nominated. That is one clue that those guys are probably together. Now, who has been targeted? Donny, Jocasta, Victoria, Nicole.
Obviously, those guys are on the outs. If I was Donny for instance, I would try to strike an alliance with those put on the block because we are all on the outs. The enemy is those on power meaning Frankie, Derrick, Cody.
The second clue is Zach and Frankie. They are very close. Alliance partners? You betcha! So, just adding those two bits, you have Frankie, Derrick, Cody and Zach tied at the hip! Now, Christine, she was put on the block once, shows no loyalties to you so, who is she loyal to? Add her to the enemy pile. So, you have Frankie, Derrick, Cody, Zach and Christine as very likely in an alliance. Amber and Caleb are obviously, on the outs being on the block repeatedly as well.

      • Just process of elimination. Too old and sickly to be on Big Brother though. I am just a fan but, if I knew someone who wanted to try out for Big Brother, I certainly can give pointers on what to look out for if they want to play smart and have a chance of winning. Most of the winners figure out that you have lots of alliances like Derrick is doing now and try to fly under the radar at the same time. I think Hayden is doing that now which is fly under the radar. Rooting for Nicole, Hayden and Donny to make it to the end though.

  18. Ok i don’t like floaters, but I hate bad game play!!! Joey anyone? Christine anyone?

    • Even last season, remember now is not the right week, Helen? What about Judd who was clueless when he was evicted and like Helen refused to take out Amanda? He got back into the game, trusted those same people who evicted him and got booted out a 2nd time!

  19. Super dumb of Frankie and Christine to attempt it the way they did; not really a bad idea for Cody and Derrick to go along with it to jump over to the Rationale.

If Zach did blow it up, they could have just said there wasn’t really an alliance and only Zach thought there was. Made very believable by the fact that they will have all just evicted Zach,

  20. The most honest thing that Zach have said all season .. a self reflection and self awareness in admitting that he is the Biggest Fruitloop Dingus Ever On Big Brother .. Ha !!!

Perhaps, he has had a personal growth experience, afterall … :)

  21. To bbadboy:
Thanks for the info, I have to go by what I read here as I don’t have the time or the interest to watch the live feeds
