Diary Room: Derrick Levasseur’s “Weekly Warriors” – Big Brother 17 Week 3

Speaking about being an HOH and coming out unscathed, another Houseguest immediately comes to mind. In Big Brother, you can be a “warrior” one week and “dud” the next. Unfortunately, Vanessa Rousso was that person this week. After my praises about her game in last week’s article, I was extremely disappointed with Vanessa’s game play as HOH. Although still very strategic and methodical, she was very emotional, paranoid, and confrontational during her reign. I can’t entirely disagree with her reasoning for targeting Jeff but in doing so, she has caught the attention of the other houseguests. You DO NOT want that this early in the game.

Additionally, Vanessa’s decision to target Jeff over Audrey appears to have left the house somewhat divided. Not good when you can’t play in the following HOH. Don’t get me wrong. Vanessa still has a very good chance at winning this whole game. Her one saving grace is that most houseguests are under the impression that Austin Matelson was the brains behind the operation. Hopefully, Vanessa makes an effort to fly under the radar this week and let others go at each other, allowing her to escape back into the shadows. Wooossssaaaahhhh Vanessa!

  1. Although I agree John and Becky are doing good flying under the radar, I fear they aren’t aligning themselves with people like they should. Yes John has a good read on the house and could come alive later on, but if he doesn’t have any good allies when he comes alive, he won’t be able to do anything. Take Donny for example. He knew you were the mastermind, and tried to rally people against you. But it was too late because he had no allies in the house to back him up.

As for Vanessa, we do have to take in account that most of her paranoia and emotional distress was due to Austin. Had Austin not thrown that HoH, the nominations would have stayed the same, and it would have been a much smoother week for her without getting as much blood on her hands. I do think she has positioned herself well with her allies, but I agree that she needs to lay low this week.

    • I can see John and Becky teaming up as a “power couple.” They seem to like each other and they are both free agents. They are both smart and good competitors as well, so they could be a force with some help.

      • Yeah I love Becky/John power duo, they seem to be working together casually I just wish they make it more official of an alliance!

  2. Totally with you, Derrick and think that John could very well go to the end and that he is particularly entertaining — which reminds me of you and how I enjoyed your presence in the game last year. You proved, too, that nice guys do NOT finish last! Hopefully, nice guy John can do the same.
