Big Brother 19 Episode 14 Recap: Jessica Holds All The Power Or Does She?

Jessica continued to dominate the Big Brother 19 house during Wednesday night’s episode as she added veto winner to her resume this week. So she holds all the power and should be able to get the results she wants this week. Right? Well, not so fast.

We jump into the episode right after Jessica nominated some “floaters” (nope, they’re not floaters). She tells us that Ramses is just the pawn and that Josh is the actual target.

And we’ve instantly got some more Josh tears. He’s upset that Jessica told him he doesn’t deserve to be in the game. Christmas on hand to talk Josh down and I think she reminds him that he does have a couple of chances to save himself this week. So Josh decides to focus on veto.

Jessica gets to work on securing the votes for Josh. She gets a yes from Elena and all Paul gives her is some unsolicited advice. He tells her it’s too early to ask that question and that she should wait until veto. Jessica is pretty much whatever and we cut to an annoying showmance clip with Jessica and Cody. Gag.

Elsewhere, Paul gets to work on rallying people to keep Josh and vote out Ramses. And since Jessica’s nominations were pretty worthless to begin with, it’s not going to take much work. Alex, Jason and Kevin are on board right away. Keeping Josh in the house who is a bigger target (re: shield) than Ramses is a no-brainer.

Paul fills Josh in on his plan and tells Josh to just lay low and act deleted this week but he’s not going anywhere.

After a quick segment on Cody trying to improve his social game by smiling and emoting like a regular human person, it’s time to pick players for the veto competition. Joining Jessica, Ramses and Josh in the competition are Cody, via Jessica’s houseguest choice, Jason and Christmas.

It’s Veto Competition time and it’s the fun exploding one that always ends in 5 of the six players covered in colorful muck! And Christmas is out first. So we get some more stupid Christmas music and puns from Paul in the diary room.

In the next round Jason, Ramses and Josh all are eliminated. So that leaves only Jessica and Cody. And since Cody is a gentleman, he decides to throw it for her. Zzzzz. So Jessica wins the Power of Veto.

So it’s pretty much a given that Josh is staying on the block so Paul again tells Josh to just lay low and be emotional and not cause any problems this week and they’ll all vote to save him. Paul knows that if Jessica uses the veto, then keeping Josh wouldn’t be as easy.

Jessica lets Ramses know that he’s not going home and that if she senses that he’s in danger, she will pull him off the block. Meanwhile, Paul has Matt, Raven, Alex, Jason and Kevin all ready to vote Ramses out. And all they have to do is keep it on the down low until after the veto ceremony. Jessica makes her rounds and everyone assures her that the house is united to get Josh out this week.

But Jessica isn’t convinced. She tells Cody that she’s not confident that if nominations stay the same that Josh will go home. Cody thinks she’s being more paranoid than she needs to be (mostly because she mentioned putting Alex on the block and we all know how Cody feels about Alex going on the block). So Jessica was ready to pull the plug on the plan and save Ramses, but Cody basically talks her out of it.

So it comes as no surprise at the veto ceremony with Jessica decides not to use the Power of Veto and nominations stay the same. So the house is poised to keep Josh and vote out Ramses.

  1. I really wanted to see Jessica succeed this week the way she championed those comps, but wow she really wasted her HOH. She took a page right out of Alex’s playbook with her less than unimpressive nominations. This is what happens when you alienate yourself in the house, you get blindsided!

    • She should have gone on and gone after the big alliance. At best, she has a couple of weeks of safety and she can still damage the big alliance and cause splinters by sending a couple of their members home! That would give her and Cody a fighting chance with the Halting Hex as protection for a couple of weeks.

  2. I think with Kevin telling Jessica about the BS, anything can happen from now until tomorrow night…..but Josh and Ramses are both going to go off the deep end since they both thought they were safe. The house is going to be very uncomfortable.

  3. If Cody would’ve let her run her HOH like she said she wanted, then we could have saw Josh and Alex on the block this week.
I can’t believe how badly they screwed this up, Jess should have done it anyways… she should’ve followed her gut

    • Based on what Jessica said in the diary room after she became HoH, how she wanted to not do things as Cody did when he was HoH, I think she tried so hard to be a better, more open-minded leader who understood that a good leader listens to (but not necessarily follows) the advice of trusted advisors.

The problems with this? If she had tried that approach in Week 1, it could have worked. Now, with no one in the house devoted to her except Cody, the only person whose advice she could take is Cody’s, and yet on this nomination decision Cody was wrong.

  4. As a fan I love Watching the floaters get evicted early on, because It will setup a good fight @ the end of the season. However strategically this makes no sense @ all…

  5. I only saw 30 seconds of this episode, where 3 guests got eliminated and Jessica/Cody were left. There was no need for me to watch.

  6. Cody trying to be social is painful, he looks fake. He should stay under a rock, er I mean hiding away in the HoH or HN room

  7. Dang it, Kevin..why couldn’t you keep your big mouth shut? I hate it when players ruin these blindsides!! Grrr!

  8. Okay BB chatters, I am new to this media, so please bare with me. I’ve been a follower of BB for some time and enjoyed the gamesmanship…until this season. The one individual that is absolutely driving me crazy is Josh. For those of you who are of my generation (50+), the first thing that comes to mind every time I see him crying is the Baby Huey cartoon character (for those of the younger generation, look it up on YouTube) and his thing for meatballs (if he’s trying to make it a social networking type word,he should try something else, like Klean-ex, adult diapers, etc..). So I ask, am I being overly judgmental, or does he need some mental help?

    • First of all, welcome!
Josh is a character. He does have issues but honestly I’m sort of liking the kid this week. He is a big kid and can act well with people who treat him well like Paul and Christmas. He does not do well when insulted which Cody and Jess have done repeatedly. Then he has to act out, too much I agree but his Blindside Dance and his dancing yesterday with the stuffed bird had me in stitches. It would be interesting to see how he functions in real life. This BB environment is crazy and not everyone handles it well.
We all have our likes and dislikes of these hg’s this season, which makes the discussions here interesting.

      • I have to agree with you about Cody and Jess. After seeing what happened to Megan early in the season, I’m surprised no has gone off the deep end. I’d hate to see Josh snap and go from a gentle giant to a really pissed off bear!

    • Josh is very immature..I think he is socially inept. Has anger issues. I don’t know how he got past the show psychologist!! And I am in the 50+ category as well!

    • There are days when I think this is the best season ever.

Then there are days when I think it’s the WORST and seriously consider giving up on the season.

I think on balance this means it’s probably better than average.

Josh is growing on me as well. Jodibel have been nasty to him on a personal level which is not caloed for in this game.

      Just wish Kevin hadn’t BLABBED.

      • Agreed. Kevin is being a puppet right now, but as the game progresses, he’ll need to start getting more involved. I don’t know how much Paul has control over him and the other players, but with his (Paul) Den of Temptation prize either ending or coming to an end, he may lose some of his strings.

    • I commented on this a few weeks ago. J.M. should never have been allowed on the show. He is emotionally unstable. Remember what happened with that guy on the Jenny Jones show a decade or so ago who ended up murdering another show guest after the show? One would think that the industry would have learned that potentially increasing ratings by having more drama is not worth the resulting lawsuits.

  9. Josh in the diary room: “…a whole nuther week”.

Dear Josh, there is no such word as “nuther”.

  10. Why the dang fish again? This is getting a little annoying this season..seems to be happening quite often..I know it’s only 5.99/month..but it does get a little irritating when you wonder why they do it so much for no reason that I can see..right in the middle of conversations/game talk..goes to fish!!

  11. During the picks for PoV players, there Matt was on the sofa wearing that same G.D. orange tank top. Is it the same shirt every day, or did he pack a suitcase full of those shirts?

    • He does have a blue one also. Someone said earlier that he probably brought clothes that had logos on them that production confiscated thus ending up with few clothes. Rather see him in his two shirts than Cody who doesn’t seem to have any

      • Somebody should start a gofundme page, raise $10, and send it to production with a note asking them to go buy Matt another shirt or two. I’m sure they could get something from Ross Dress for Less or Goodwill. Next, take a match to that damn orange tank top and get this man a real meal! Matt, you won’t keep those muscles for long by eating cereal all day!!!

    • Hey, just got an idea!! Since Paul is a “clothes designer” maybe he could whip up something for Matt, eh? & maybe include some of that fur from his vest collar? ha ha ha

      • What is going on with that half-fur vest? Why is Paul still wearing it two weeks later?

  12. Paula and Josh in the pantry: Paul has to instruct Josh what to do as if he’s a 2-year-old. Sad.

  13. Jessica, Ramses is not paranoid and neither are you. Paranoia is an unreasonable fear that people are dangerous to you. His fear and yours are not unreasonable. You are right. The feeling in your gut is right. Go with it. Listen to your inner self. People are planning to screw you over and keep Josh. Cody’s advice for you to just chill was bad. You are smart and know what’s going on with what the other house guests are scheming to do. If only you would listen to yourself.

  14. Sweet baby laying in the manger! Jessica frustrates the living daylights out of me to point where I could cheerfully take a frying pan to the side of her head in the hopes that it would bat some sense into the girl.

In a week where she holds the power to turn the house upside down and inside out, what does she do? Out of sight, out of mind she kicks her powers under the bed and gets herself busy with Cody’s various and assorted appendages. Blech! Next time take a cold shower and stay in there until you’re ready to come out and play the danged game!

    • “Sweet baby laying in the manger!” — you just made my evening with that line!

  15. It sucks that Jessica made a bad move, but after watching the episode I understand what she was trying to do, the problem is that the house whole is a bunch of puppets and they will do whatever Paul tells them…

  16. praying Ramses goes home.. Sick of Jessica getting everything in this game.. pretty much handed to her by production

    • First it’s Paul, now it’s Jessica?
How did she get everything handed to her? She fought hard for that HOH & won it fair and square. Cody coming back was Paul’s fault, Jessica didn’t get that handed to her, & same with the Veto, sure Cody gave it to her but other players were competing but lost. so technically the only one that handed anything to Jessica was Cody.
The HH was given to her by America. That wasn’t just handed to her.
I understand that BB is not the reality show it once was! I do believe production does influence players and situations however, Jessica did not have this “handed to her,” impossible!
Everyone who dislikes Paul says production is handing him everything, yet he is playing a very good social game and managed to wrangle up a bunch of minions to follow him. And all the people who dislike Jessica are now saying what you just said. That makes no sense. In my opinion, with all due respect! ❤️

  17. I don’t recall, (I could be wrong) but I am pretty sure I have never seen a grown man cry on BB after losing the veto competition especially when safe!
    #reallydislikejoshbigtime

  18. Without Cody, Jessica (I think) would go very far! Even though she was happy to have him back, it was better for her game for him not to. She is no dummy! When she was talking to Cody on the hammock everything she said made so much sense!! It is everything we have all been saying all week!
What she did wrong was suggested Alex be the renom & also she listened to Cody!
Why Alex only? There are other people she could have used and kept Cody happy!
Do Cody and Alex even talk anymore? It doesn’t sound like they do so, what difference would it have made!?
    Ugh 😑
Well at least she knows Josh is staying therefore there will not be a blindside! I enjoy blindsides but, not one they works in Josh’s favour!!!!

  19. After watching Wednesday nights episode things are more clear to me as to why Jessica did what she did.
She did make a stupid move, but I understand it now. I understand her thought process w/ the nominees and why she didn’t take Ramses off the block!
What she was planning was smart, trying to repair relationships & trust.
The problem is, Paul has 3/4 of the house wrapped around his little finger & they all do what they are told to do! Even if in the back of their minds they really really want Josh out! Grrrrrrrr 😡
Watching Jessica on Wednesday episode made things a lot clearer! She knows what she’s doing. she does knows the game, and she would be good at it if not for Cody influencing her decisions incorrectly.
Unfortunately she doesn’t know what we all know. (Well, she knows they are not evicting Josh) & that’s good! I didn’t want Josh to have the power of being an arrogant prick after the blindside.
    Thank you Kevin! ❤️

  20. Okay, I’m gonna admit it – the Paul DR segment after Xmas lost the Veto comp was hilarious.

  21. All I have to say about this episode is that I’m not a Paul fan, I want him out so the others can play the game, but his Jingle Boom DR session might be the most memorable funny thing I’ve seen on the CBS shows since Froot Loop Dingus.
