Diary Room: Adam Poch’s Player Rankings: Big Brother 17 – Finale Week Part 2

We have finally made it to Day 98 – tonight Julie will hand an oversized check to either Vanessa, Steve, or Liz. That will also signify the end of the Big Brother 17 season. We will now have to find other ways to spend every waking moment as there will be no CBS show 3 nights a week – and no more hours of watching people eat, sleep, scamper, etc on the Live Feeds.

I am sad the season is over, but happy to have so much time freed up! The finale should be fun to see if Steve or Vanessa will win part 3 – and will they take each other like they promised, or will they take Liz who has 2 for sure votes in the jury. make sure you have your popcorn ready because there should be plenty of fireworks tonight, BUT FIRST – here are the final final rankings.

Yesterday in part 1 of my final Bacon/Tofu wrap-ups – I gave out Tofu to the first 9 evictees – today I will compare my preseason predictions to how they played, & hand out Bacon to the final 8.

Meg Maley – Preseason ranking: 4 strips of Bacon – OK, maybe I am giving her extra bacon because she is a superfan from the NY area and has been to some of the reality viewing parties here. So of course I am rooting for her. Could she be a Jessie (BB15) and have her game hurt because she is too busy chasing boys? I am hoping not. She has to not fall victim to her craziness getting her in trouble. I see her as first 2 out – or final 6.

Meg (or Grandma as her roommates called her) did not have much of a physical presence during the game, unless you are talking about the 2 best wipeouts of the season (during the slip n slide & Otev comps). She was the straight woman in the James/Meg comedy duo.

While the showmance thing never happened, Meg had plenty of opportunites with James & Jeff – and who can forget the drunky flirting with Clay? Sadly she will be remembered as the Black Widow – everyone she was friends with early would be sent packing. But she was able to outlast a lot of other players. Final ranking – 1 strip of Bacon

James Huling – Preseason ranking: 3 strips of Bacon – probably the most genuine person in this group. James has seen a lot in his days of the military & as a corrections officer. He will be very aware of what’s going on around him without anyone knowing. He has a chance to go real far if he can align himself with some other strong/smart players. Top 6.

Not to toot my own horn here, but I think my preseason assessment was pretty spot on. James was the goofball we all love to watch inside the house, but he was also a very strong player who sadly never teamed up with other strong players until it was too late.

James was the HoH that was able to split up the Clelli showmance – but I still question his decision to get rid of Shelli the following week instead of Vanessa. Ok, maybe it was better for his game at the time, but we were all kicking and throwing stuff at our TV when he flipped. Final ranking – 2 strips of Bacon

Julia Nolan – No preseason ranking – We saw the twin swap in Season 5 – and no one had any clue – but this season, the HGs started picking up on the possibility of the Twin Twist early on. Instead of taking that opportunity to get rid of 1 person now, her sister Liz had her allies use Julia’s entry into the game as a weapon to get another number on their side.

When Julia finally entered the game, she was just that – a number – since she did not seem to have much of her own strategy, and was not winning comps. But she did win the Veto on the 2nd Double Eviction night to seal James’ fate. (OK, James actually sealed his own fat by not even getting 1 point). Julia proved in BB that sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Final Ranking – 2 strips of Bacon.

Austin Matelson – Preseason ranking: 2 strips of Bacon – A big guy with a big heart, shows respect to his girlfriend at home – superfan & live feeder – this reminds me of another player from a few years ago – what was his name? (hint, it’s me!) Only knock on him is he does not seem to think quickly on his feet. How are you going to play like you are weak & then lead everyone in exercises & do back flips in the backyard? He could be a target early so he will need to win some comps or he’s a goner. And I think he will win those challenges. Lock for jury – possible top 6.

WOW – my first line of this was totally wrong. Well, not totally – we did see Austin is a bug guy with a big heart, but the preseason line about being loyal to his girlfriend went out the window as soon as Jace left and he went for sloppy seconds with Liz. But I was correct about him making it to Final 6. He did win some comps when he needed to, and he was targeted early – by his own alliance. But like so often in BB history – plans change on a dime, and he survived to live another day.

The blindside eviction by Vanessa, sending him out to Julie barefoot is one of the highlights of the season. If he spent a little more time paying attention to what was going on around him, instead of trying so hard to get Liz to fall in love with him (which seems to have worked) – perhaps he could have struck first and got Vanessa out when he had the chance. Instead we all got to laugh at him throwing away his chance at 500K. Final Ranking – 3 strips of Bacon

John McGuire – Preseason ranking: 5 strips of 23K Gold Dusted Chocolate Covered Bacon* – I have no idea if he will be a player or voted out week 1 – but he gave the best answer on why he was cast “maybe it’s cause I sound stupid when I talk.” If he can keep his annoying fandom down – and, as he also says, “keep his mouth shut” early, he will go far. I think he will be the Judd (BB15) of the season – everyone will love him, but somewhere in the top 6, they will have to get rid of him.
* – this does exist and I have a strip in my freezer now!

Never have I seen a player loved by so many alumni as Johnny Mac was loved this season. He was just so funny in his DR’s – showing he was aware of what was going on around him and he did a great job downplaying his fandom. He was a competition beast with 4 Vetos – 3 of them when he was on the block. But he also threw a few too many comps early and got himself in that position where he had to win the Veto to guarantee his safety.

John did also win his way back into the house (like Judd), made it to the Final 6 (like Judd) and was too loved so he had to go when they finally had the chance (like Judd). Final Ranking – 4 strips of Bacon

Now for the Final 3 – in the order that I think they will finish (not the way I want them to finish, but the way I think they will)

Steve Moses – Preseason ranking: 1 strip of Bacon – How this kid never compared himself to BB14 winner Ian is beyond me. It’s so obvious that’s why he got cast. Smart & awkward – his knowledge of the game will either propel him to top 6 – or make him an early boot. I see the former.

Yes, Steve has a lot of similarities to Ian – but dare I say – even more socially awkward. He won that first Veto to guarantee his safety – or he would have been gone week 1 (similar to Boogie giving Ian immunity week 1 on BB14). His constant “scampering” annoyed a lot of the HGs – but they would also recognize he is only 22, and a momma’s boy – so they cut him some slack.

I never understood the “hate” Steve received from outside the house. So many superfans want to see normal people (aka the non recruit / non-model types) play the game, but when we get them, and they are odd people – they are chastised for their quirks. Steve’s quirks helped him in the game, but he may have sealed his fate when he threw the final Veto allowing Vanessa to win it.

Regardless 3 HoH & 2 Veto wins made him one of the power players this season – and if he wins the last HoH – he should cut Vanessa like he’s told us all he will – and that would probably seal the victory for him. I just think he may get a little shell shocked during the Final live HoH and overthink some of the answers leading to him losing. If he does not win – Vanessa will cut him for sure – and he will join me in the 3rd place club! I hope not… GO STEVE!!!! Final Ranking – 5 strips of Bacon

Liz Nolan – Preseason ranking: 1 strip of Bacon. This girl has no idea what she is getting herself into – which will probably work to her advantage. She will be flirty and use what god (or the doctors) gave her to get one of these guys into a showmance. No shot to win, but she should make it to jury. Also, if you close your eyes and listen to her interview – she sounds just like Michelle Costa (S10).

Not only was I right about her getting into a showmance, but technically she was in 2 showmances. Jumping from Jace to Austin. This strategy worked for her very well, as Austin put her on his shoulder at times and carried her through. But she also showed some competition savvy by winning 3 HoH’s and the most important Battle of the Block week 5 guaranteeing her sister joining the game & Austin not getting backdoor’d.

Yes, Liz’s voice did get a little annoying at time (unlike Michelle Costa’s) – and when her & Julia would whine together, many of us wanted to saw our ears off – but she would bounce back and be cheery & playful. The threat of the Austwins coming after whoever went after them first was enough to keep people away from targeting her. She is all but a lock to make it to the Final 2 – and if so, she has a chance of winning. She has 2 votes locked in, which in itself should be enough to not take her, and depending on the bitterness of the Jury – could earn her some votes over Steve or Vanessa. Final Ranking – 5 strips of Bacon

Vanessa Rousso – Preseason ranking: 4 strips of Bacon – I am sure she will be a lot of people’s prediction to win it all because of her poker background. She admits the toughest part will be playing & reading these people for 100 days. That’s a long long long time & unlike poker, she is not only playing against the other HG’s – she’s playing against the house. Those walls can break people. I see her in the jury – and most likely top 6. She will not be the one someone will want to take to the final 2, so she will need to win out to get the $.

Again, my preseason prediction was pretty spot on. All she needs to do is win one more competition and she will be in the F2 seats & giving her (fake tear filled) speech to the jury so they hand her half a million. Love her or hate her, she has been the biggest power player of the season. Some of it was strategy, some of it was luck, but no matter what you think, she was in hard core game mode from day 1.

Vanessa’s inability to stick to one plan actually worked – and she would bust out the tears & pull on people’s emotional strings to get them to do what was best for Vanessa while thinking they were doing what was good for them. That is where her game was great, she was the puppetmaster to the twins – I mean, getting Julia to target Austin during the Veto??? That was Dan/Dr. Will/Derrick stuff right there! Julia ended up going home that week, and Liz & Austin STILL trusted her after that!

People will say the rest of the HGs were dumb – but that shows just how strong her game was – to get people to follow her into the fire – only for her to step aside at the last second and let them fall while she was chillin with her green hat & sunglasses on.

If only Vanessa showed more in the DRs or on the Live Feeds that she actually acknowledged her game, she’d have way more support outside the house – both from fans & BB Alumni. This line in particular from her week 10 HoH blog really annoyed me “Strategically, I have so very much to say, but I am going to wait until I get out to touch on that any further. I plan to release a series of strategy analysis blogs in October detailing my mindset and strategy throughout this Big Brother season.” She got so caught up in her own lies and deceit of the HG’s – she thinks she can do the same to us. BUT… she did kick butt all season as has earned her right to fight for the win. Final ranking – 5 strips of Bacon.

Final question of the week – Who do you want to win & who do you think deserves the win (are they the same person)?

OK – there ya have it – another season of Bacon/Tofu rankings for Big Brother Network. I hope you all enjoyed reading these as much as I had writing them. Thank you to Matt at BBN for letting me do this for the 2nd straight season, and I plan on doing it again next season, unless I am playing on All-Stars, which there is a .00001% chance. But if I am – watch the feeds and I will give out my Bacon/Tofu rankings live!

For the last time in 2015 – from outside the Big Brother House, I’m Adam Poch – have a great day!
